Assistant curator Jay Haywood launches Dudley Zoo's search for the perfect Santa

The zoo has launched their search for a Santa to join their festive events, right from their summer Ow Bin Ya Sands beach attraction this week.

The right recruit is needed for the position to star in the busy Winter Wonderland grotto at the heart of the 11th century Dudley Castle – spreading plenty of festive cheer.

Andrea Hales, market manager at Dudley Zoological Gardens, said: "Although it’s still sunny August, we’re launching a summer search for a Santa to join our hugely popular grotto.

“We’re after a friendly Father Christmas with a great sense of humour, who enjoys working with small children. We’ll supply the uniform but it would be wonderful if he had his own white beard.”

She added that the grotto was particularly popular with groups and school parties – and said weekends during the event were especially busy.

Santa's festive run at Dudley Zoo runs between December 1 and December 24.

Interested Santas – with or without beards – should apply via email or post, and include a CV and any festive photos if they have taken on the role previously. The position is paid.

Applications can be sent to marketing@dudleyzoo.org.uk or Marketing Department, Dudley Zoological Gardens, Castle Hill, Dudley, DY1 4QF.

The closing date for Santa applications is August 31.
