Nine-year-old Heidi Palmer, from Kingswinford, stars in the Discover Dudley video

Discover Dudley has launched the new film to encourage more people to discover everything that the borough has on offer – including Dudley Zoo and Castle, the Black Country Living Museum and intu Merry Hill.

The film gives a whistlestop tour of the attractions on offer, as seen through the eyes of nine-year-old Heidi Palmer and her family, from Kingswinford. While Heidi stars throughout the video, it is actually narrated by her older sister Ella May Palmer, 12.

It calls in on the Black Country Living Museum, dropping in on the lemurs at Dudley Zoo, spying on dinosaurs at Dudley Museum at the Archives and watching glassblowing at Wordsley's Red House Glass Cone.

It also takes in a show at Dudley Town Hall, gliding through the tunnels at Dudley Canal and Tunnel Trust, stops off Merry Hill and hunting for fossils at Wren's Nest National Nature Reserve.

The video ends with young Heidi running across the expanse of Himley Park to her family and the picturesque view over the boating lake.

Councillor Ian Kettle, Dudley Council's cabinet member for tourism, said: "I am immensely proud of the film which has been produced for Discover Dudley.

"When you see everything the borough has to offer wrapped up in this short film, it’s quite remarkable.

"We have national nature reserves, internationally important geological sites, award winning attractions, historic locations and many protected green spaces – all within easy reach.

“Dudley borough has so much going for it. Yes, we were a key part of the past, playing an important role in the industrial revolution and the glass industry, but we continue to look forward, teaching new skills, bringing on the next generation of geologists, protecting endangered animals and running first class attractions.

"The borough is a great place to visit, and I hope this film also serves as a reminder to local people to make the most of what’s on their doorstep.”

Discover Dudley brings together all of the attractions across the Dudley borough to promote all that it has to offer.

Birmingham-based production company Spark Media is behind the film which is being showcased across social media.
