New mural is icing on the cake for Wolverhampton star's Beverley Knight's 'emotional' homecoming

Wolverhampton's own singing star Beverley Knight was moved to tears after visiting a mural which was painted in her honour.

Whitmore Reans artist Graffiti For U spraypainted her image on a city centre wall last year after being given permission by the business owner to create it.

The singing star nipped round to see the artwork in Victoria Passage off Skinner Street during a break from her latest stage production Marie and Rosetta at the Grand Theatre last week.

Afterwards, a clearly emotional BeverIey posted on social media: "I don’t know if I will ever find the words to explain how much being at home in Wolverhampton meant to me.

"@graffitiforu created this mural of me last year and I popped into the city centre to see it.

"I was overwhelmed."

It rounded off a delightful trip home which saw her honoured by theatre bosses with a name plaque on seat B25 at the Grand which she said left her feeling "emotional" and speechless.

Mural painter Graffiti For U said: "She shared her visit on Instagram and tagged me into it which was really cool. She's really humble and I'm super happy that she's seen it in person.

" I've never met her, but I know people who have and they've all said how down to earth she is.

"I painted her because I wanted to do something in the city centre that was relevant to the place. I couldn't think of a better person to honour."
