Kenny Craig, from Sedgley, usually performs to crowds with his guitar at the village's annual switch-on event which is attended by hundreds of people.

However, after organisers reluctantly cancelled the event due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, he has given the general public a special message.

Mr Craig said: "I would just like to say unfortunately we have had to cancel the show this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"I would like to thank everyone for supporting us for the least three years.

"Hopefully it will get back to normal next year and we wish everyone a good Christmas and a happy New Year. Stay safe and best wishes."

More Covid-19 coverage:

Hundreds of people usually attend the event each year which features live entertainment and festive stalls.

Other performers in the past have included Wolverhampton's Donchez Dacres who took part in Britain's Got Talent in 2018.

Organisers are looking at running an online event this year instead due to cancellation of the lights switch-on.

Sedgley ward councillor "People's health has to come first. We haven't - by the looks of it - got the virus under control, so events like this can't go ahead as much as it's sad."
