Mother-of-three Cheryl Davies has published her first children's picture book, The Fairy who Sings

Cheryl Davies took the plunge to write her first children's book in 2019, having spent more than 20 years supporting children and young people who experienced social and emotional difficulties due to life experiences.

She said: "I've always wanted to do something like this, ever since I wrote poetry at school and my poem was published when I was at junior school in a church magazine.

"I'd always put it off and put it off and said I would do it after maternity leave, but having three children meant I never got round to it as my time was always taken up.

"It was while I was working at a school supporting children who had been affected by domestic abuse that the deputy headteacher heard about my love of poetry and suggested I just do it."

The 41-year-old, from Brereton, near Rugeley, penned The Fairy who Sings, which is about Briony Rose Fairy, who is born with a torn wing and unable to fly, but learns she has a talent to sing.

The fully-illustrated book was published and released in April. It led to Cheryl starting her own business called Find Magic Within, which offers tools to inspire creativity.

The book is also set to gain a wider audience as Chris Jarvis, from CBeebies will be reading the book on Little Radio UK, something Cheryl said was an amazing feeling.

"It feels amazing to have somebody my children Lexi, Summer and Darla have grown up watching on the TV reading my book on the radio," she said.

"It happened after I sent them a copy of my book and asked if they'd consider reading it. They replied back to say they liked it and would definitely do so.

"I'd love to be able to inspire children as I think it's very empowering for them to be creative and make something themselves."

To listen to Chris Jarvis read the book, between 6.30pm and 8.30pm tomorrow, go to littleradio.co.uk, or for further information about Find Magic Within, visit findmagicwithin.com
