The organisers are taking August off to recharge their batteries and allow the clamour for live music rebuild among the series’ supporters. And they will return with five shows to see in the cooler, drawing in evenings.

Organiser Dave Hammonds explained: “After what can only be described as a fantastic half year the good people of SoAaR are taking a well-earned summer break during festival season.

“But never fear, they will be back in September at Katie Fitzgeralds, bigger and better than ever.”

The shows start up again on September 12 with former Chumbawumba member Danbert Nobacon, who will be performing his own style of Agit-prop folk alongside Kira Wood-Kramer at the Enville Street venue.

On September 14, Rev Hammer plus The Neil Bothy Band will be travelling all the way from Denmark to perform.

As Mr Hammonds adds: “Rev Hammer is a totally engaging artist who has played with The Levellers, Justin Sullivan and Nick Harper, as well as being a founder member of folk troubadours Red Sky Coven.”

On September 27 begins SoAaR's long weekend, which starts with the blues groove of Blackballed. Based in Oldham, they are fronted by New Model Army guitarist Marshall Gill.

“However, these are no one-trick pony,” Mr Hammonds adds, “and they are truly a band that encourage a party.”

Support on the night comes from Black Country rockers Under A Banner – currently searching for a new bassist - and the cabaret of Captain of The Lost Waves.

The next day, The Leylines plus Paul Henshaw take to the stage. It’s described as “modern folk punk at its best”. And support is from former Unsigned column star Paul Henshaw, who “sings and plays his guitar like someone with something to get off his chest,” according to Mr Hammonds.

Finally, on September 29, there is a special charity gig starting at 4pm which features The Bushburys - who are reforming especially for the show.

There will be special guests all day and the gig will culminate with a full set by Bleeding Hearts.
