Together with America’s Jonathan Gresham he defeated Pentagon and Rey Fenix in a thrilling contest that repeatedly brought the crowd to their feet.

Both members of CCK would feel the full force of vicious chops to the chest from the Mexicans, with the sound of Pentagon’s echoing around the arena.

As to be expected, there would be plenty of high-flying offence with Gresham coming close with a beautiful Shooting Star Press off the top turnbuckle, while Fenix would repeatedly dive over the top rope.

The finish would see Brookes and Fenix successfully isolate Fenix to secure the pinfall they needed to win Group A and advance to the tournament final.

They should have been joined in that final by Wolverhampton residents Kyle Fletcher and Mark Davis.

However Aussie Open would be denied a clear victory by the nefarious tactics of Germany’s Jay Skillet and Francis Kaspin.

At the very start of the match the Australians had overwhelmed Jay-FK, with Davis covering Skillet only for his tag team partner to pull the referee out of the ring so he couldn’t complete his count.

Later they would distract the referee so that they could low-blow Davis, and secured the victory with an illegal double-team roll-up.

The defeat meant that Aussie Open were ultimately eliminated despite winning their previous two matches, with Jay-FK going through on the tiebreaker of the two teams’ head to head record.

The German fans showed their appreciation for Fletcher and Davis, chanting “Please Come Back” as they left the ring.

Jay-FK winning Group B also meant that Avalanche and Julian Nero lost their WXW World Tag Team Titles, with a new champion to be crowned in the World Tag Team League Final.

Brookes and Gresham were the clear fan favourites with the fans loudly chanting in their favour throughout the match.

This began with a wild brawl outside the ring, after Jay-FK tried to sneak attack their opponents.

Ultimately the referee was able to get both teams in the ring so that the match could officially begin.

An even match would eventually conclude when Jay-FK were able to isolate Gresham, and punish him for a prolonged period.

With Brookes unable to help the American, Gresham would ultimately fall to a backcracker, making Skillet and Kaspin the new WXW World Tag Team Champions.

Still despite failing to add to their collection of championship, Brookes, Fletcher and Davis all impressed in Germany over what was an excellent weekend that saw West Midlands talent shine as some of pro-wrestling’s best descended on Oberhausen.
