One-hit-wonder Chico Slimani, who knocked Madonna off the top spot in 2006 with his single 'It's Chico Time', turned up at Lutley Primary School this morning to lead the fast-paced dance class.

The event was orchestrated by local gym owner Tracey Nicholls, who signed up to be an instructor for Chico's fitness firm Blockfit.

Launched by the star in 2015, Blockfit classes fuse dance, combat, HIIT (high-intensity interval training) with yoga inspired moves and meditation. Instructors, like 43-year-old Tracey, can study the Blockfit through a training course, and then teach it at their own gym.

Chico, who lives in North London with wife Daniyela and children Lalla-Khira, 11, and eight-year-old Zac, said he was delighted to be raising heart rates in the Black Country for the day. His classes all feature his own original music.

The 47-year-old said: "Being here in Halesowen has been a total delight. The ladies have been so brilliant, they have given me 100 per cent - it was fantastic."

Despite it being more than a decade since his X-Factor appearance in 2005, in which he made it to the quarter-finals, Chico still entertained his audience with his well-known catchphrase; 'what time is it? It's Chico time.'

He added: "Everything is a dream. Just like in 2005 I dreamed of having a number one - I achieved that. Now I have another dream, a physical one. I always give a message of hope and inspiration, I want people to have a healthier mindset."

Fitness instructor Tracey, who lives in Halesowen with personal trainer husband Paul and their three children, said: "I met Chico a few years ago at a fitness event and I was just blown away by him and his routine. So I got qualified the next day to teach it.

"It's absolutely amazing for him to be here. He really puts his heart and soul into this. He dedicates so much of his time and makes so many sacrifices."
