The Amanda Whittington play, which is being produced by the city centre theatre in association with Wolverhampton Racecourse, is the second in-house production to be created by the Grand, following a successful run of Brassed Off last year.

Alasdair's previous directing credits include The Blue Room by David Hare, Shirley Valentine by Willy Russell, and Two by Jim Cartwright.

He is also a well-established actor, having worked extensively in the West End and regional theatre in shows such as We Will Rock You, The Phantom of the Opera, Sunday in the Park with George, and Beauty and the Beast. He has also appeared on TV in shows such as EastEnders, The Bill and Casualty.

Talking about Ladies' Day, Alasdair said: “I’m very excited to be a part of Wolverhampton Grand Theatre’s journey into producing theatre in-house.

"I look forward to working with Amanda Whittington once again and the team at the Grand Theatre and I’m particularly thrilled at the prospect of working on a new revised version of Amanda’s wonderful play relocated to Wolverhampton.”

The comedy show follows the story of four women, who work at a fish factory, on a day trip to the races. As the day unfolds, their six-race bet keeps coming up trumps, and if their luck holds, they could win the jackpot.

Adrian Jackson, chief executive and artistic director of the Grand Theatre, said: “I’m delighted Alasdair will be joining the team at the Grand for our production of Ladies Day.

"Alasdair and I have worked together for many years and I know he will create a very special production for Wolverhampton which will build on the accolades we have achieved during the last few years, particularly our recent production of Brassed Off”.
