D.J. Pierce, better known by his stage name Shangela, competed on season two of RuPaul's Drag Race but was sadly the first queen to be eliminated.

The star was brought back to season three to compete alongside the likes of Raja, Yara Sophia, Alexis Mateo and Manila Luzon. In this season, she make it to the top five of the competition.

In 2017 it was announced that the queen would return to the race for a third time, as she would compete in RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars 3 alongside Kennedy Davenport, Thorgy Thor, Milk, Morgan McMichaels and Trixie Mattel.

Following Drag Race, Shangela has made several TV appearances, including Toddlers and Tiaras, Glee, Bones, Community, Terriers, Dance Moms, 2 Broke Girls, Detroit 1876 and The Mentalist.

He has also been active in AIDS awareness and activism, After being featured in a Gilead Sciences ad titled Red Ribbon Runway with fellow Drag Race co-stars Carmen Carrera, Delta Work, Manila Luzon and Alexis Mateo.

In 2014 Shangela was featured in the lyric video for Lady Gaga single Applause alongside fellow Drag Race alumni Detox, Morgan McMichaels, Courtney Act, Willam Belli and Raven.

Shangela also had a role in the 2016 comedy film Hurricane Bianca, directed by Matt Kugelman and starring friend and fellow Drag Race alumnus Bianca Del Rio in the lead role as well as Willam Belli, Alan Cumming and RuPaul.

Shangela will appear at Birmingham's Glee Club on April 10.
