As part of the Staffordshire theme park's annual Scarefest event, a new scare maze has been put together to celebrate Halloween.

This year, the maze has been given the title 'The Welcoming: Be Chosen' and a number of brave individuals were chosen to get a taste of what's to come in the capital.

Those singled out to take on the scare maze will go on to be among the first to experience Alton Towers Resort’s brand-new secret attraction for 2018, known only by its codename ‘Secret Weapon 8’.

The commuters were enticed into a hand-crafted 6ft-by-7ft rickety wooden cage on wheels, giving them a glimpse of what guests can expect at the petrifying live-action maze.

An Alton Towers spokesperson said: "On selected dates in October, the Theme Park becomes home to Halloween, remaining open until 9pm so you can enjoy your favourite rides in the dark plus loads of extra entertainment.

"For spooky young visitors, there are live shows and our famous freaky four to meet, whilst older families will enjoy our House of Monsters maze and Freak Show scare zone."

ScareFest runs until October 31 and the park is open until 9pm for visitors to enjoy 20 attractions from dusk and into dark.
