Everyone knows this spooky family with their dark take on life and the macabre scene was soon set as their ghostly Ancestors got themselves trapped in the real world and tangled up in the family's saga.

Wednesday, played with perfect youthful zeal by Carrie Hope Fletcher, has been hit by the love bug, flipping her usual albeit extreme teenage angst on its head and replacing it with yellow dresses and joyfulness.

Like all good daddy's girls it's her father Gomez, charmingly portrayed by Cameron Blakely, in whom she confides, leaving him with a dilemma - lie to his wife or let down his daughter

And when your wife is the sexy but scary Morticia, a scary yet sexy Samantha Womack, there's little chance of things going smoothly.

Sadly Les Dennis who was billed as Uncle Fester wasn't on stage last night but Scott Paige who took his place was superb, a great mix of weirdness and sensitivity.

Running throughout is loads of humour from the sharp one-liners, daft accents and good clean toilet humour to visual gags, like Wednesday singing Pulled, about her divided loyalties, while stretching her brother Pugsley on a rack.

And hanging it all together are cracking tunes, some poignant, others just sheer fun, and the dancing is fabulous, culminating in a real knee-trembler of a tango.

The Addams aren't a family you'd really want to live next door to - but they sure put on a party you’d not want to miss.

The Addams Family runs until Saturday.
