With his flowing blond locks and rugged beard, it’s not difficult to see why the fast-rising comic was cast for the role.

But as he spoke to us ahead of his appearance at Brierley Hill Civic Hall later this month – his first ever appearance on stage in Dudley - the keen QPR fan said he lived far from a rock n roll lifestyle.

“To be honest, I don’t really like travelling anywhere that isn’t to my bed or my sofa,” the 31-year-old, from Brighton, said.

But has he ever trashed a hotel room while on the road?

“I stay mainly in Travelodges when I’m on tour,” Walsh said.

“If you stay in a Travelodge, they trash it for you before you even get there.

“I think probably the worst thing I’ve done while on the road is to have the inside light on in the car whilst driving.”

But while he is not raising the roof off stage, he certainly has been on it.

Despite only picking up a mic for the first time just over 10 years ago, Walsh has enjoyed a rapid rise to fame.

He won the prestigious Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year award in 2009 and was named Best Newcomer by industry website Chortle in the same year.

Numerous TV appearances have followed since including on Live At The Apollo, Mock The Week, 8 Out of 10 Cats, Celebrity Juice and Play to the Whistle.

Doing Live At The Apollo was particularly special, he said.

“I always love playing the Hammersmith Apollo because it’s just round the corner from where I live now,” Walsh said.

“I also really loved Reading Festival this year.”

But, as with any comic, life is not always plain sailing and there are always tales of the horror gig.

Walsh said: “There’s a gig in south-east London that always gets a lot of students from art college.

“I’ve never made anyone in that room smile. I once walked on and heard a guy in the front row lean over to his mate and say ‘I hate him’.”

Walsh is headlining the latest in the popular Live At The Civic series in Brierley Hill on Saturday October 21st.

It will be the fifth stand-up show to be held at the Civic since it started in July last year, with the likes of Ross Noble, Joe Lycett, Mark Watson, Doc Brown, Tom Stade and Doreen Tipton having already performed there.

Supporting Walsh on the night will be Patrick Monahan – winner of ITV’s Show Me The Funny hosted by Jason Manford back in 2011 – and Vince Atta and Jake Lambert, two pro acts tipped for big things.

It will be hosted as ever by Dudley’s own Wayne Beese, who said it would be a great night.

“Seann is a brilliant observational comedian, and I’m delighted we’ve been able to get him here for his first appearance in Dudley,” he said.

“He will be talking about everyday things the audience will all be able to relate to and laugh along with.

“Then you have Patrick Monahan, who is brilliant at interacting with the crowd, Vince Atta, who is a musical hip-hop act, and Jake Lambert with his one-liners and wry stories.

“It’s a great bill, and a very varied one at that. There really will be something for everyone, and we would urge people to snap up tickets and come and see for themselves.”

Nearly 400 have been snapped up already for the show, which kicks off at 8pm with doors and the bar opening at 7pm.

Tickets cost £18.50 – but people booking 10 or more tickets at once will be able to enjoy a near 30 per cent discount, with the price dropping to £12.50 per person.
