The Head Wrap Diaries heading to Newhampton Arts Centre

A theatre is to be transformed into a hair salon for Uchenna Dance’s show The Head Wrap Diaries.

Newhampton Arts Centre, based on Dunkley Street in Wolverhampton, will welcome the audience from 7.30pm on Friday.

Stylists Linda and Riyah will welcome visitors into the Be-u-Tiful hair salon for show full of dance, theatre and humour.

Hair- worn long, short, wavy or in braids is the subject and the audience are taken on a journey that will have them thinking about their own and everyone’s else’s hair and learning a thing or two about afro-hair straight from the hairdresser’s chair.

Ghanaian musician Kweku Aacht provides a soundtrack of sounds from Afro house, folk and electronic dance music to jazz and Ghana gospel.

After the show an installation of specially commissioned art work, poetry, hair and head wrap displays will give the audience the opportunity to meet the company, share experiences and learn and share different ways of tying head wraps. Local company Aduko Accessories will also be on hand selling head bands and head wraps.
