The 22-year-old aspiring firefighter was appearing on the latest episode of Blind Date – made famous by the late Cilla Black in the 1980s and 90s and now back on our screens presented by her pal Paul O'Grady.

Dominic, of Willow Avenue, was vying for the attentions of one 'lucky lady' on the show which aired on Saturday on Channel 5.

And Amy from Leeds ignored the other two suitors - a cabin crew member from Portsmouth and a aerospace engineer from Newcastle to plump for our lad from Wolverhampton.

Dominic, who has just completed a BSC degree in fire and rescue hopes to become a fully-fledged firefighter after graduating from the University of Wolverhampton this September.

He said: "I applied to the show because I just want to find someone to spend time with, to have banter with, to get to know properly.

"I was in a long term relationship of around 13/14 months a while back then I broke up with my most recent girlfriend in November.

"I guess I'm looking for someone with the traits I liked - someone I just click with."

Dominic, who currently works as an environmental monitoring technician for a company based in Four Ashes, hopes that's his easy-going personality will be a hit with Amy. The two will be back on the show next weekend to tell O'Grady all about it.

He said: "I wasn't really confident when I was younger, because I was a bit overweight and that. Now I go to the gym a lot and spend a lot of time socialising with my friends, going out on the town.

"It would be great if I could find someone special to spend time with. My previous relationships didn't last I think because we spent too much time together. We were with each other 24/7 and you begin to get annoyed and argue."

Dominic, who previously attended Heath Park School, is the first person in his family to appear on TV.

He added: "My family were really happy and proud of me when they found out. I think I'm the first person in the family to go on TV.

"You never know, it might lead to more appearances, but hopefully, more dates."
