A village fair was "the best for a long time" according to its organisers.

Thousands of visitors turned out for Albrighton Fair, which was held on the village's High Street.

Chairwoman Stephanie French-Perkins said the free event was the best the village has seen for a long time. She said: "This was the best one we've had for a long time, I'd say the visitors were in the thousands.

"It's a traditional fair which is all done for the kids. We have an animal man, a fun fair and a circus tent where the kids can do circus skills.

"All the entertainment was free apart from the fun fair so everyone could be included. There was also bands on later in the afternoon.

"It was just fantastic, we couldn't have asked for anything better.

"We had a parade at 2pm with some floats from all the local schools and organisations. There were also vintage cars and tractors in the parade.

"Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, it was great, there was no trouble.

"In a couple of weeks we will start planning next year's fair as we need to book the entertainment early as they get booked up."

Children enjoyed donkey rides, live music, animals, circus skills and a fun fair at the event, held on Saturday, from 10am to 4pm

Stephanie said the fair costs about £3,000 to run each year and that the committee gets help from the local councils.

She said: "We get help off the local councils to fund the fair and make it free for the children. A lot of the local shops and traders also donate gifts for prizes. It costs about £3,000 to run each year."
