Runners and walkers completed the 5km distance to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The race was started by Charlie Dryden and her two-year-old son Carter, who celebrated his birthday last week.

Two years ago they went up on stage at Race for Life when Carter was just six days old.

Charlie, 25, thought she was going to die when she found a lump under her arm and suffered pains in her stomach early in 2013 and doctors diagnosed non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.

However, she underwent a course of chemotherapy and pulled through. Carter was born on June 3, 2015 after she was given the all-clear.

Charlie Dryden said: "Together we started Race for Life and together we shared positivity.

"Thanks for all who supported us and came along...here's to Cancer Research."

Motivational music was blasted through speakers to spur those taking part past the finish line.

Jane Redman, Cancer Research UK spokesman for the Midlands, said: “Every day, around 83 people are diagnosed with cancer in the West Midlands.

“Race for Life events are not competitive. They are not about being fit or fast.

“Taking part is about being part of a collective force of powerful women – of all ages – leading the charge against cancer.”
