A new catering van which makes and sells healthy food has opened up outside the main entrance to Exercise 4 Less in Whitmore Reans. From the van Danny McCarthy, Alexandra O'Brien and Kieran Bowers.

The van was the idea of Danny McCarthy, aged 26, of Stafford Road.

Danny had the idea for the van around five months ago when looking to get some healthy food immediately after his gym session.

He said: "I realised that there was nothing in my immediate location where I could get something healthy that wouldn't waste all the time I'd just spent in the gym.

"The last thing you want after spending a hour working out is a cheeseburger or something unhealthy, so I had the idea for the van."

Danny shared the idea with his uncle, Patrick O'Brien, aged 44, of Tettenhall who agreed to help him with the project.

Now, the van has officially been launched outside Xercise4Less Wolverhampton, based at The Grasshopper Building on Craddock Street.

It will stay there for an indefinite period. To help with the launch, WWE star Trent Seven from Castlecroft attended the launch.

Trent Seven, who trains at the gym and is a friend of Danny's said: "I know the importance of nutrition when I'm training. I'm a vegan, so it's particularly difficult for me to find foods that don't undermine my workout. This van idea is a great one because it's something different that really caters for people's on going interest in improving their lifestyle."

The van offers six main courses, including chicken and steak as well as vegan and vegetarian options. People choose their meat or main element, then their carbohydrates which are brown rice, noodles, sweet potato or couscous then their vegetables and sauces. People can also select from a variety of fruit smoothies and protein shakes. Staff in the van can also prepare weekly meal boxes for customers.

Janice Edwards, 48, of Wombourne, who works at the gym said: "I think it's a great idea. It's already becoming popular because people love convenience. It means that they can come out the gym and have something prepared for them to take away for their tea that is healthy and doesn't take away from their workout."

The van will be in operation from 11am till 8pm daily, six days a week.
