Walsall artist wows with window winter wonderlands

He's previously turned pumpkin carving into an art form but with Halloween well behind us, sculptor Simon Patel is getting into the Christmas spirit instead.

The 40-year-old father from Primley Avenue, Walsall, is starting to make a name for himself on his estate with his winter scene window snow art.

It started off last year when he decorated his window using his sculpting skills but now dozens of people are getting in touch asking him to do their windows.

Mr Patel, who is a house husband looking after his two children, said: "I did one for myself last year and put it on Facebook and since then everyone wants their window doing.

"I did the Charlie Browns clothes shop this week. It has gone absolutely crazy, I think I need to make another business out of it."

Simon is a keen artist and sculptor and spends a lot of time carving and making pieces in his workshop during any spare time he has.

And all it takes to make the stunning window displays is snow spray, paint brushes and a craft knife.

He added: "I'm quite arty anyway. I just do a different scene each time and really enjoy doing it.

"People think I'm doing it with a stencil and stand but watch me for 10 minutes and are amazed. I had quite an audience outside Charlie Browns.

"Everyone around my estate loves it at Christmas time and it will help pay for the presents."

Mr Patel originally made a name for himself carving pumpkins using spoons until he decided to take things a bit more seriously a couple of years ago and bought a proper carving set.
