Crossroads star to play Hancock

The actor behind Crossroads legend Benny is to play legendary Brummie comedian Tony Hancock at the city's Alexandra Theatre.

Crossroads legend Benny is to take to the stage as legendary Brummie comedian Tony Hancock in a new play in the city's Alexandra Theatre.

Entitled Hancock's Finest Hour the show, which has been under development for two years, will be at the theatre from June 21-26.

The play is set in Hancock's dressing room while he awaits a TV interview.

Paul Henry, who played handyman Benny in the Midlands soap, will portray the tortured genius, who committed suicide at the age of 44.

Classically trained in Birmingham, Paul came up through the Rep system and is a great fan of Hancock.

The shows in Birmingham are part of a national tour.
