Tuesday's win in the Black Country derby against Wolves has put the Baggies in pole position in the race to reach the Premier League.

And Phillips is hoping the can seal their return to the top flight when his former club Southampton visit The Hawthorns on April 28, avoiding the prospect of a tense final day at QPR.

"I can't see us letting ourselves down at Norwich on Saturday," said Phillips.

"We're so close now and if we win on Saturday and being at home against Southampton the week after we could have the chance to get promoted in front of our own supporters.

"Saturday is a massive game.

"I think sitting in third and fourth places over the last few weeks has helped because when you're top everyone wants to get a scalp and beat West Brom.

"We've put ourselves back on top now and I'm sure Norwich will want to scalp us on Saturday and Southampton after that.

"But what a fantastic time to come through when it's so tight.

"Our goal difference is like having an extra point so all credit to the lads. It was a fantastic performance on Tuesday and we all enjoyed it."

Albion took a two-point lead at the top on Tuesday and victory at Carrow Road on Saturday would be another huge step towards promotion with two of their closest rivals, Stoke and Bristol City, meeting at 5.20pm.

Meanwhile, 34-year-old Phillips has insisted he is still fit enough to start every match.

Manager Tony Mowbray believes regular rest has helped keep his leading scorer fresh throughout the season but Phillips disagrees.

"For me to stay fresh I need to be playing week in, week out," he said.

"When I'm not playing I don't feel as fresh.

"I like to keep on top of my fitness.

"The manager has got his views but personally I want to be playing week in, week out."
