Robert Koren’s warning for England
Tuesday 22nd June 2010, 10:30AM BST.
Former Albion star and Slovenia captain Robert Koren has warned England his country will not roll over and let them make the knockout stages of the World Cup.
Slovenia were eight minutes away from securing a place in the knockout phase last Friday, only for Michael Bradley’s goal to salvage a draw for the United States and leave Group C up in the air.
England stuttered to a disappointing goalless draw against Algeria that evening which leaves their World Cup future up in the air, desperately needing a good result against their unfancied opponents in Port Elizabeth tomorrow.
And Koren is no mood to let the country where he has played for the last three years off the hook.
He said: “It was a big achievement for the country to come to the World Cup but now everybody wants to improve.
“When we arrived in South Africa we said we wanted to go through the group stage and we are full of confidence that we can. We already expected before the tournament to go through the group stage, and this is still the same.
“We all know that England is a really good team with big players in their squad, but we are not thinking too much about England, we will concentrate on ourselves and the way we want to play.
“The first game, England versus the United States, England played OK, we saw some good things and bad things – it was the same in the second game against Algeria. England didn’t show the football we expected.”
