And Lee Fellows has won the Express & Star's Star Witness contest for June after his fiery snapshot captured the drama of the event, which attracted thousands of visitors.

The crowds enjoyed more than five hours of exciting displays including a joint Spitfire and Typhoon display, the best of the modern day Royal Air Force, classic aircraft and set pieces.

An avid air show goer, Mr Fellows, from Pelsall, seized the opportunity when taking the photo, as he was confident he knew to be in the right place at the right time after previous experience at Cosford shows.

Mr Fellows, said: "I was lucky to capture the picture the minute it burst into such a vivid and giant explosion. It was an unbelievable sight, I snapped away and must have taken over 2,000 photos that day alone.

"I've watched that show before so I knew I had to be in the right place when the explosions were going to take place.

"I love going to the shows and my wife and kids enjoy coming along. My kids are getting more into photography with each event we attend.

"It's a friendly day out for families to come along to. The views and shows put on display are always pretty amazing.

"I love aviation in general and try my best go to to three or four shows a year."

Lee's first love affair with the RAF Cosford show began when he visited as an eight-year-old on a school trip.

The show is also renowned for the huge variety of attractions on the ground and three hangars of interactive displays and exhibitions.

He combined his love of aviation with taking his hobby of photography more seriously over the last four or five years but only recently bought a Canon 20D in the last few months, something he has been using 'as often as possible'.
