Cameron Borthwick-Jackson must force his way into Paul Lambert's Wolves plans

Outcast Cameron Borthwick-Jackson is still part of Paul Lambert's plans, the Wolves boss has insisted, despite the full-back having yet to feature under the head coach.

Manchester United loanee Borthwick-Jackson last featured in a Wolves shirt for the 3-2 home defeat to Derby County on November 5, the day that Lambert was appointed.

He was widely expected to have his season-long loan curtailed during the recent January transfer window.

But United, despite naming the 20-year-old in their Europa League squad for the second half of the season, didn't want the youngster back and he will remain at Molineux until the end of the campaign.

Borthwick-Jackson played for Scott Sellars' under-23 side in the 4-2 defeat to Portsmouth at Telford on Tuesday night.

But with Matt Doherty not having missed a Championship game since 2015, Borthwick-Jackson's first-team prospects at Wolves appear slim.

Lambert told the Express & Star that it was up to the defender to fight for his place.

"Cameron has always been part of the plans but Doherty has been playing extremely well," he said.

"And Doherty's consistent. Cameron, like everyone else, has got to fight his way in the side.

"I've had a chat with him, there are no issues at all. He knows himself he has to compete with Doc, plus Saville's gone in there and done a great job when called upon.

"It's like anything, you have to fight to get in.

"Matt is consistent, robust and plays to a high standard.

"I've got a lot of lads that want to play."
