Dave Edwards: Helder Costa is the best player I've seen at Wolves
Goalscoring hero David Edwards has compared Wolves' feelgood factor to the 2008/09 title-winning team – as he hailed Helder Costa as the best he's seen at Wolves.
Edwards scored twice at Oakwell on Tuesday as Wolves made it six wins from nine.
The Welsh international will look to reach double figures at Burton tomorrow as Wolves chase another win to close the lengthy gap on the play-offs, which currently stands at 11 points.
Edwards believes there may be too much to do to catch the top six. But ahead of the Midlands clash he said the feeling around Molineux at the moment was akin to Mick McCarthy's 2009 promotion winners – thanks to Paul Lambert.
"He's definitely helped us, he's fantastic to have around, the whole mood has switched completely and it's got the feelgood factor of 2008/09.
"Everyone's buying into it and we've got such cohesion in the squad. If we get on a run you never know, but we might have given ourselves too much to do."
"If you look at it realistically it probably doesn't look like it. But in this league there's always a latecomer to the party and hopefully it can be us. It does mean you have to go on a run of four or five games and pick up maximum points. We are capable of that."
Wolves smashed their transfer record to sign Costa on Monday for £13million.
Edwards said it was clear Wolves would need to be in the Premier League within 18 months to keep the Portuguese wing wizard.
And he said the big-money signing had lifted the whole squad.
"It's given everyone a boost," Edwards added. "We don't know what's going to happen down the line but to get him as a Wolves player now and to have a contract for four-and-a-half seasons...we'd love him to be with us for all of that and be in the Premier League.
"You've got to look at it honestly as well and think if he has this season and next season and we're not in the Premier League it's going to be time for him to move. I think the fans would accept that.
"But hopefully we can do it because he is, since I've been here, the best player I've seen.
"He's so robust, he takes tackles well, but his pace and his final product...he's got everything. Benfica must have some wingers if they can let him go!"
