Ola John nears Wolves exit

Winger Ola John looks set to leave Wolves with his loan spell believed to be almost at an end.

Soccer - EFL Cup Round Three - Newcastle United v Wolverhampton Wanderers
Ola John saw only limited appearances for Wolves on his loan deal from Benfica.

The 24-year-old had signed up to a season-long deal from Benfica last August, one of five loanees snapped up by Wolves in the summer.

However he has played just 27 minutes of Championship football in two substitute appearances.

He also made a 45-minute appearance in the 2-0 EFL Cup defeat at Newcastle United.

John has yet to appear under boss Paul Lambert due to a hamstring injury which has sidelined him for three months.

He returned to training this week but his loan deal is now set to be cut short. It's thought that Benfica will loan him to Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna.

Manchester United defender Cameron Borthwick-Jackson is also expected to have his loan deal cancelled in the coming days.

He too has yet to feature under Lambert, but hasn't had any injury problems. The 19-year-old's last appearance came in the 3-2 defeat to Derby County at Molineux in November.

The pair will be the first of a host of players to leave Molineux this month. Joao Teixeira is due to be on loan from Benfica for the season but his exit also looks likely having made only three substitute cameos under Lambert.

Jed Wallace is also thought to be close to sealing a move away from the club and Wolves will look to offload Paul Gladon on loan.

The Dutch striker has played just three times since joining for £1m from Heracles.

If Lambert were smart, he would be doing everything possible to try to get Teixeira playing. He has enormous talent and it is the coach's job to bring that talent out and mold him into a star player. Even if he is only a loan player.

That being said, maybe Teixeira has expressed an interest in leaving.

Buckswolf

Hard to know where to start with this one - presumably if Lambert was smart he'd leave Costa or Cavaliero (or Enobakhare or Mason or Ronan or Saville or Gibbs-White) out to give Teixera a game and it's Lambert's job to mold him into a top player so he can do a great job for Benfica or another team next season? I think Lambert's job is to win matches and build a winning squad of Wolves players - not develop "star players" for other teams at the expense of our own players. UTW

He would still have half a season here and, if he comes good, maybe another. And is Saville really that good that he will stay with the team for longer than the end of the season? Teixeira has more talent than all but, maybe two, of the afore mentioned and one of those is a loan player.

Chorley Steve

I reckon all Teixeira has been bothered about for months now is getting back to the Algarve. Hope for his sake he moves quicker for his flight at the airport than he has for us on the pitch.

WolfWarrior

I don't disagree with any of those leaving!

Some of these signings were very poor - mainly Ola John and Gladon - and the blame for this must lie with Thelwell and Mendes! Irrespective I still think that we need a couple of experienced players in but certainly not the likes of Westwood and Rodellega, who we have been linked with. I would much rather see our youngsters play than players deemed not good enough for Villa and Wigan.

Farmer Ted

B'rob, you have to be wrong about Westwood, he was one of their bright star in a miserable season and living amongst Villa fans, he's one they don't want to lose. A talented playmaker with goals in him. Remember the majority of players transferred are not wanted, but one manager can get something out of a player others can't. Don't think Bruce will let him go.

brob

the blame lies with Jeff Shi and Fosun who allowed Mendes to influence their thinking to

his own advantage.

We know thelwell and KJ wanted to get in idrysa Sylla for example and he went to QPR and scored in the game against us the other week

Tomwolf

Those mentioned above for one reason or other just haven't had much impact on the team. But the one player I'm disappointed hasn't made it, is Jed Wallace I had high hopes for this lad having watched his career closely. I still think he will make a good career out of football and wouldn't be surprised to see him going to Millwall on a permanent deal. I said on this site the other day that I would like to see us re-sign Sam Winnall who I belive would do a good job for us in the Championship. I read today that Sheffield Wednesday have put in a bid of £500,000 for him, surely this is the kind of player we should be looking at ? I still think young Tom Bradshaw and Connor Houraine also both of Barnsley would be good players to sign especially Houraine.

Didn't get a chance through injuries would have liked to see what he could do or not do.however pl knows best.

Start of the Great Exodus hopefully. We have to make room for quality coming in.

Ola john I'm on about not wallace

Who we signing then..

Black Country Wanderer

All this talk about acting fast in the January window has turned out to be exactly that, talk

Almost 2 weeks in and nothing in or out, which is how we usually do things,i was hoping the new regime would act more and talk less ,but to no avail I'm sad to say,at least so far

What I'm most surprised at is the lack of players heading out, surely players such as Tex,Gladdon,John,Wallace,Henry and up till a few days ago I would have added Evans and Saville to that list but they may have earned a reprieve with their performances of late, should be on their way by now

BCW Well that's it then, we will have to make do with a 19 goal a season striker. Let;s face it a 10 goal a season striker would be a start. I fail to see to how any one can think Budvarsson will come up with the goals. It would be a bigger miracle since turning Severn Trent Water into Banks' Mild. His record: Viking 81 appearances (15 goals), Kaiserlautern 15 apperances (2goals), Wolves so far 23 appearances ( 2 goals). He has other things to offer: pace, holding the ball up, but if he was signed as a striker someone didn't do their homework. Perhaps the same person who didn't do his homework on Byrne, Wallace etc.

Personally, I am looking forward to when the Jan transfer window opens and we get that 19 goal a season striker .

Black Country Wanderer

I agree Chris double figures would be nice, and I can see Cav and Costa getting that amount maybe even Dangerous Dave

That guy doing his homework, or not, would be KT then,as Bod was the one he did "due diligence" on in the summer wasn't it?

I do like Bod,and he brings a lot to the team, unfortunately as you say he will never be prolific in the goals department

I can see him and Mason being useful together, once Mason is back to his best, and I presume that was the reason for his signing

I too am looking forward to the window opening,or was that the stable door closing I missed, yep another 20 goal a season striker has bolted, drat

Suprised Ola didnt cut it? as play well in this league for other clubs, must of been the injurys keeping him out the side, he's another who could return to molinuex oneday and haunt us.

End of the day, we dont need 60 players only 11 and lambert has found a good core of players to build a squad on.

Hope to see a few more out the door. Lessons need to be learnt quickly by fosun, mendez, thelwell, we cant keep making cheap poor alternative, knee jerk signings.

NUGENT's just signed for derby 31years old, few years left in him, promotions with boro and leicester, think weve missed another who could of help us get to the next level?

herewolf

What sort of scouting system have we got a Wolves when Arsenal have confirmed the signing of left-back Cohen Bramall from non-league side Hednesford Town, which is just down the round from us when someone like Venger can see the sort of potential in a non league player way down in London why can't our shortsighted scouts see it!!

Farmer Ted

Hereford, you can say that's about thousands of young footballers who don't play for their local clubs. It happens. How about complimenting the scouts for the crop of young players currently breaking through.

CAROLINA WOLF

It's that time.

Cull the squad down to your core group and start building the new squad ! Time is of the essence, but I'd rather take a little longer and come up with a good side ready to challenge and achieve.
