Wolves 0 Sheff Wed 2 - Report and pictures

Wolves' winless run extended to nine games after a 2-0 defeat at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

Paul Lambert's first Molineux match in charge of Wolves ended in disappointment with his team surrendering two first half goals.

Fernando Forestieri's early penalty after he was fouled by Matt Doherty was added to by a second from Kieran Lee, with defensive howlers contributing to both goals.

Wolves improved after the break but chances were still at a premium and they never looked like salvaging an unlikely point.

The result leaves them 21st in the Championship table with only goal difference keeping them out of the relegation zone.

Well if Paul Lambert wasn't already aware of the monumental task that lies ahead of him, he is now.

Wolves were at their haphazard worst for spells of this game, particularly in the first half when a defensive capitulation gifted Wednesday their two-goal lead.

Steve Bull and Andy Thompson were presented to the crowd at half time to mark 30 years since they joined the club.

It was a reminder of far happier times for Wolves' long-suffering fans, who have endured a lean 2016 which has so far produced, despite off-field excitement in the form of Fosun's takeover, a desperately poor 11 months.

In 40 Championship matches this calendar year Wolves have scored only 41 goals. George Saville, with six, is their top scorer in 2016.

So there are no quick fixes for Lambert here. The rot set in a long time ago and Wolves have wasted almost half a season with an experiment that didn't work, in the form of Walter Zenga and a number of new signings who simply don't fit in.

Confidence is rock bottom, Wolves can't defend or attack to an adequate level for this division, and the January transfer window remains five weeks away.

In some ways the last thing Wolves need is more players. But the 30 they have just aren't proving up to it. Or rather, they've yet to be moulded into a coherent football team.

Lambert made two changes to the team that drew 0-0 at Preston last weekend.

In came David Edwards after suspension, replacing Bright Enobakhare in the number 10 role, while Richard Stearman came in for the suspended Danny Batth in central defence for his first appearance since September 13.

Edwards skippered the side and in front of Molineux's biggest crowd for two seasons Wolves began with attacking intent.

That soon evaporated, though, along with the team's confidence.

It was startling how, immediately after Wednesday took the lead from the penalty spot, Wolves visibly looked scared and devoid of both confidence and ideas.

Their defensive line deepened and the midfield struggled to get the ball into the Wednesday third of the field.

It was reminiscent of the Derby first half. Wednesday opened Wolves up several times in quick succession and it was no surprise when they doubled their lead.

In fact the only positive of a dreadful first half was that it was only 2-0.

Defensive mistakes littered their play, with Doherty's dreadful challenge for the penalty mirrored by an awful pass from Iorfa that put Stearman in trouble for the second.

Lambert's bench was full of attacking options and he changed things up at half time, sending on Nouha Dicko for George Saville.

The change brought Wolves and the fans to life. Attacking the South Bank helped, and Dicko added some vim and vigour popping up all over the place harassing defenders.

He sent a half-chance off target when a cross looked a better opportunity, while Kortney Hause produced a first attempt on target 63 minutes in but his header was easily saved.

Wolves were playing far higher up the field and pressing Wednesday, but the quality just wasn't there in the final third in what was a fairly uneventful second half.

Joao Teixeira was also sent on, but with 15 minutes left Wolves had made few inroads in terms of goalscoring chances.

The final throw of the dice was Ivan Cavaleiro, but after he sent Wolves' best chance of the game past the post with his first touch, you knew it wasn't their day.

Key moments

11 - Lovely one-touch move through the middle from Wolves. Jon Dadi Bodvarsson tees up ConoroCoady who set up a volley with great touch, but crashes the shot wide from 18 yards.

15 - GOAL - Barry Bannan plays a superb ball across goal, Wolves don't deal with it and Matt Doherty wipes out Fernando Forestieri for a clear penalty. The Italian dusts himself down to beat Andy Lonergan from the spot, sending the keeper the wrong way.

16 - There immediately follows a thunderous minute's applause for Wolves fan Lydia Ameson, who tragically died last week aged 15.

25 - Wolves are cut open, with Wednesday two-on-one. Richard Stearman crucially blocks the pass and the ball comes back in to Bannan who fires over.

30 - GOAL - Another car crash at the back. Dominic Iorfa's pass puts Stearman in trouble - Forestieri nips in and plays across goal. It's too strong for Lucas Joao but he passes back inside for Kieran Lee who can't miss.

34 - Ross Wallace sends a 25-yard free kick just wide as Wednesday threaten again.

53 - Nouha Dicko is released in the box by a superb Jack Price pass - he shoots from a tight angle but it's high and wide. David Edwards was screaming for a pull-back.

63 - Kortney Hause gets up well to meet Price's floating corner, but his header is too close to Kieran Westwood who makes his first save of the game.

78 - With his first touch of the game substitute Ivan Cavaleiro should score. Edwards flicks on a cross, Cavaleiro is free on the left of the six yard box but fires across goal and wide.

81 - Steven Fletcher, being booed on his first return to Molineux, stabs goalwards from six yards and Lonergan pushes wide.

Worst I've ever seen.

Can only be bether.

Coady, Saville, Bodvarsson, Price, Teixeira, Stearman. Not at all good enough for Championship.

Those calling for the reinstatement of Stearman, are you happy with yourselves! Truthfully?

Thelwell instrumented Stearmans return and is unbelievably instilling the M&M protocol!

Fosun FGS wake up, dispose of Thelwell and the old guard or pay the price.

The fans have been sh@t on today....

What a joke we are! All that money wasted on players that don't fit or can't play, someone has to be accountable, Thelwell!! Worse than last season, will the Chinese like L1 football cos that's what they are gonna get at this rate. No Bruce effect for Paul then, can't help but feel that was yet another opportunity missed. Why Saville over Cav??? NO BJ??? Shambles!

Nothing positive at all to take from this shambolic display

Can't see what lambert has bought to the table at all

Shocking !

Matt Doherty making a defensive mistake that gives away a goal, it happens almost every week. Any fool can see the major problem, the defence.

Cradley Wolf

Who do you think you are kidding Mr Lambert

If you think that we are going to stay in this league with this bunch of crap we've had to put up with again today you must be as bloody loony as the loony tunes characters you have playing for us !!!

Pathetic, Dire, Ridiculous if anybody can think of anything else to describe today's performance please do.

We are now only out of the relegation zone on goal difference where we deserve to be and anybody who disagrees with this must need their heads looking at !!

Q P R up next any predictions anybody ??

Answers on a postage stamp please........

Does anyone have the courage to try and predict the next result?

The happy clappers will rigidly be superglued to Project denial I'm afraid old pal...

Not Convinced

jack price inspires wolves to convincing win in front of capacity crowd , helped by dohertys inspired master class at how to play left back - right ?

chris h

The Icelander didn't do so well, either did he. Another game another blank, another game not even one shot on goal, another game not even a header on goal. Dicko came on and managed a shot on goal, wasteful, but at least it was a shot, Cavaliero comes on and has a shot (should have scored), but at least he managed to find a position in the box to create the chance. I really wish it wasn't so, because we need a striker who can find the net, but this guy wouldn't score many for Cannock Wood, nevermind Hednesford Town. Whoever recruited him should be sacked. All in all I am Not Convinced.

Not Convinced

chris H - truce - I agree we need another striker - dicko does not do it for me either - but on the whole , not always , football matches are won or lost in the midfield - next week we ve got macca 's fulham visitng m'neux - so we may need a midfield of about 6 at least .

George Saville top scorer in 2016 with 6 goals.Says it all, really.

Hopefully he won't be around for #7.

A Sunday leauge youth manager would have had more sense mate.

Swindon wolves

Well when you inherit rubbish what can you say

I think who ever sanctioned the transfers that were bought in should themselves be out the door half a dozen light wieght players were never going to make it in this league. We need some steal all the way down the middle Send the loan rubbish back where they came from. All of them including the fans hero Stearman. Unload the others and get three good professionals in who can control a game. It will cost , but not as much as relegation

Captain Mardon International

You signed the manager. He is total crap. Wo1ve5 will struggle with Lambert.

Corporal Punishment.

Yet another lost soul loses it's way from Sandwell Town.

Forget the playoffs.. It's survival.. Total clearout, Black Saturday..

The writings been on the wall for ages, goes back to morgan not investing when we were already in the premiership..

Doomed!.....league one ear we come again,.. why, why is this once great club in such a mess!!!?

Are we still talking about the play-offs? Or have we realised yet that the far more important aim is to avoid relegation. The season started with a promise and none of the new signings were involved. Why not revert to that side? But the spirit needs to be revived as well.

Cradley Wolf

It doesn't matter which players he uses or which formation he plays we will still lose, There is not one player who did anything worth shouting about today, it is obviously painful that there is no confidence in the team maybe Stearman has drained it all away like last time which was why he was sold to Fulham for footballing reasons......

In my humble opinion we are now destined for the dreaded drop to League 1 as there is nothing about this team that inspires any confidence that we will avoid the drop we were out thought, outfought and outclassed by a superior Sheffield Wednesday team it was on the cards from the first goal it was as though nobody gave a damn what the result ended up as, yes we had a couple of half chances but that totally summed up the display, our first attempt on target was after 65 minutes, laughable really, after watching today's dross I didn't know whether to bloody well laugh or cry !!!!

I wonder if Fosun will drop the S T prices for when we are in League 1 next season ?

Stearman is the Messiah in the eye of the Happy clapper...

I know the manager has only just been installed. But I ask why the performance today again failed to show any promise. George Saville starts again? How does one understand that? And 4-2-3-1? When will see two strikers playing together?

I said that before this club was taken over that a complete clear-out of the management, senior staff and board of directors would be needed. But that lingering malaise remains. And I really am sick of seeing personnel from the Molineux beaming out their smiles when all around is failure. But it's still well-paid jobs for the boys at the Molineux and nothing will change until there are more radical alterations to our set-up.

Trust me: If I had anything to do with this club I'd go in there like a typhoon. I am no respecter of reputations, and certainly no fan of those who still live on former glories. Ergo, a degree of brutality is needed at the club. Time to sweep away the old entrenched mentalities and jettison those who bring nothing to the club except failure.

As for Paul Lambert, and although he was not my choice for the manager's job, I do sympathise a little with him. I don't really think he knew exactly what he was letting himself in for. But he is going to find out very quickly.

God help this club.

PS. The 'Bruce Factor': Aston Villa 15 from 21 points; Wolves 3 from 21.

Forgot to add. If we had the Villa's points tally, we would now be on 30 points and in 5th place in the table.

G&B army

Well if this isn't a reality check I don't know what is for Lambert!.

Not going to lambast him too much but all week I've heard him say we need to be more positive and take the game to teams at home...so what does he do..play 4-5-1 and go negative...we were shocking again and looked totally clueless all over the pitch.

Good job we were ready to roar.....might have been worse. Pity we won't be playing Shrewsbury next season, they are likely to go down as well.....

Well guys what a mess we are in. Who does everyone think is at fault?

Many of our problems inherited from the parasites that used to run our club however, Thelwell and whoever else sanctioned the total waste of money signings should all go, absolutely incompetence!! Should have appointed Bruce when we had the chance too.

As I said in my offering. It's down to remnants of the old guard and old mentalities that refuse to die. Add to that new (well-meaning) owners who really do not have a grasp of what is needed to bring success to the club, and we have a recipe for disaster.

See the un mentionable has escaped from the care home again.

101 chicken chow mein

Either that or the nurses at the loony bin have left the computer logged on again.

I have yet again complained to the mods She.

Let's see if it works before he starts going down the personal road.

BeeCee look like it worked. Posts deleted. Well done mate.

I do my best to maintain some semblance of intelligent and sensible comments on this site.

He of limited diction Sourgrapes is next in my sights...!

Looking at the posts on other items I think he may have reappeared under another identity.

There is great similarity in DaveGilbertsoldsocks post contents and innuendos.

Either that or it's his son (god help him) poor soul

BeeCee they are taking great pleasure in our problems but things can change, and I would hope we would be more gracious if they do. He who laughs last ........... They may grow up one day, unless they are you know who's off spring, then no chance.

I have no doubt things will change but I don't think it will be in my lifetime.

I am of the opinion after the initial euphoria of the takeover too many mistakes have been made in such a short time such as the sacking of Jackett, the retention of Thelwell, allowing Mendes to get involved etc etc. I am not sure either if Lambert is the right appointment. We will see eh!

Although it hurts me to say it I think the Albion are adopting the right approach. Their Chinese owners didn't get as excited as ours and it really has proven to be working. Certainly better than ours anyway.

Happy Baggie

She - I in no way defend the type of posts you mention, there is certainly no need for personal attacks and it embarrasses many of us Albion fans too - but it's always been a 2 way street.....

I recall many similar posts from Wolves fans on our site during bad spells for Albion, and even now with the balance tipped in our favour we still get a few regulars from your side who try to take some weird high-ground when we lose.

That's the way with local rivalry - personally I can't see the point any more until you get back up, but there will always be a few on both sides who like to poke a stick. (and strangely enough BeeCee has been one of those..)

As you know, there are many Albion and wolves fans who can have a decent chat on here but there will always be those who can't move past the colours !!

Pray tell me when I last posted or poking a stick as you put it on the Albion site...!

Yes I will continue to defend my club the town of my birth and personal attacks by the idiot Jack. Also the likes of Sourstu et Al until I leave this mortal.

As I said to Captain Mardon today gone are the days of interclub commaradary

Happy Baggie

Its been a little while I admit - but you have been over to poke a few times..... I'm all for loyalty and you should defend your club/town when needed, but truth be told, you have done a little more than that on our pages in the past.

It doesn't really bother me but then you do get very upset when it happens in reverse.

Anyway, two wrongs don't make a right and I agree that there is no need for it.

Happy Baggie. Welcome here any time. I don't mind people coming on this site and giving constructive criticism, it's the stupid comments from the morons I object to. I know it's a two way thing I just wish they would grow up and have a proper debate. Cheers.

Doesn't anyone has the right to defend themselves when the insults are directed at you personally and your kith n kin.

As was the case with me with your compatriot Jack.

I am an octagonarian Have served my country and worked continually until my retirement.

The comments made on both sites by that person were not just abusive but threatening.

Would you have

not responded in the way I did?

I think the answer is YES surely. ..?I

Happy Baggie

Hi BeeCee - yes I would, and I already agreed that you should defend yourself/club/town ect....

There is never any excuse for personal attacks or threats - and everyone should know that.

I don't see most of what goes on over here as I only browse occasionally and I never make excuses for anyone who acts badly.

My only point was that I am sure you have thrown a few jabs out on our pages - but I agree, never in a nasty way.

Thank you...!

Dubai Wolves

If the appointment of Walter was an experiment so is that of Lambert. At least Zenger's teams went forward and entertained. Lambert's defensive line ups are reminiscent of Kenny's turgid performances. No way to repay the loyal supporters who give up hard earned income. Absolutely disappointing with only a plan to defend and frustrate - very little to encourage me back

Ever heard of the Oozlum bird, Jack? Think there are plenty at the Molineux who have.

A day to forget

Only a day?

West Park

This rott was sewn by Morgan and Moxey. . Below average players punching way above themselves..

Yes fosun have tried to bring in players as it was left so late to cherry pick the best ones so it was a case of quantity over quality with hope of a few diamonds in there..But we are playing literally the same rubbish as under Jacket!

We need now January to come and identify quality quality quality. .We desperately need winners and proven championship players..

Having said that why play Saville over Caleavero? ?

Kenilworth wolf

As I've said from day one Lambert not the right man for the job (cue dirogatory comments from the happy clappers) . Nine out of ten managers get a bounce in the teams form when arrive but his motivational abilities are so poor he hasn't even achieved that. I think most Wolves fans know There were better candidates, but we move on and hope that PL can achieve what in my heart I think is beyond him.

PS - Kevin Thelwell hang your head in shame.

Realistic Wolf

Must admit my heart sank when I heard the team news and expected nothing less than the performance we got. The defence is still a shambles and as for the Price, Coady, Saville and Edwards midfield, what a fiasco that is. All the talk about everyone getting a fair chance to me is a pipedream as it appears his mind is made up. Personally I wasn't impressed when Lambert was appointed and am even less so now. Early days yes but IMO he needs to start considering other squad members instead of sticking with the old guard who have let us down time and time again.

Absolutely woeful !!

oh dear, that is what you get for having negative players, negative coaching staff,i thought we were going to attack today, with one up front who wont get 10 goals in a season,i dont think so,2 games no goals scored under lambert, tells you something,we dont need price, saville, stearman in the team we need saiss, cav and a new centre back for now, then come jan get some more defenders and a goal scorer as we cant wait for graham and zyro

Mountain Wolf

I am truly shocked by how poor we are. I honestly expected to see some improvement this season but it would seem that we are even worse than last year. Blaming anybody is pointless because the problem seems to lie in all directions. Never in my worst nightmares did relegation seem even a remote possibility this season but now it would appear to be a distinct likelihood. What makes today even worse is that we were an improvement on the last home game. I am usually quite an optimist - I have even booked next year's holiday to avoid the play-offs - but maintaining a positive outlook is becoming increasingly more difficult.

The Flying Winger

A clearer vision from Lambert they now know what they are doing, high tensity training, playing up the field.

Who is picking the team we should be told it cannot be Lambert and Zenga before him, 70 min subs great timing.

Why pick that team with 1 up front at home in front of the biggest home crowd, we cannot all be wrong can we .

I don't agree the new signings don't fit in they haven't been given an opportunity, why not, why is Dicko on the bench.

I said yesterday Iorfa and Hause are a disaster, Docherty has been struggling but they keep getting picked.

What is going on, stIll Jacketts failed team we are heading for the same place we were last season.

What a sad day and season when so much was expected, Villa charge on and Reading's foreign manager takes them to third, not knowing the Championship.

At least Moxey his working his magic for Norwich, is he still advising us on the quiet.

Hit the nail on the head old chum, Thelwell, is Moxeys Cryptographic servant...

Please, when will the pain end?

plus might i also mention he is moaning about having 48 first teamers so why cant he pick a team to at least attack and maybe win ,coaching team and thelwell must go

It's down to strategy and motivation. Two things which we must ask serious questions about.

Kenilworth wolf

I see Jack the hat is back on our board again. I've not smelt his stench on here for a while. All I'll say Jack is that Karma is a funny thing and can bite you at any time (let's hope it happens soon eh).

Olly the cat

We have to be brutality honest. Wolverhampton Wanderers are in serious relegation trouble. Another inept and uninspiring performance today.

No more talk of making the playoffs please, there are far better teams in the top half than us. Just avoid relegation please Paul.

Just how many false dawns can a group of supporters endure? Yet another dreadful, dreary, predictable, spineless, pathetic performance in yet another embarrassing, disappointing, torturous, long, boring season in another forgettable pathetic soul destroying year.

This has been going on for nigh-on a decade now.. this club is not even a mere shadow of its former self. One has to question whether it is simply worth the constant never-ending bitter disappointment in turning up to support them every other week.

The only - and I mean only - shining light is that it does feel as though the people running the club are at least trying to put things right and return us to glory. After the Moxey/Morgan regime that does in itself feel slightly refreshing.

The Flying Winger

Raiden, Yes the people running the club are but they are being thwarted by whoever is picking the team, it is never going to work with these players from last season, when is someone anyone going to wake Up?

As I said at the start they should have cleared the backroom staff out as well as Moxey.

If Lambert and Jeff Shi have the guts then just do it.

Well whether or not people agree with you TFW the fact that the playing staff are the only common denominator supports your point pretty strongly. The club have new owners, staff, coaches, management, directors... Maybe a clear out of players that have failed the club previously is what's needed.

The Flying Winger

Raiden, Yes they are, it is also worrying if you listen to Lambert he says the new players need to learn quickly or similar, does he know that 10 are Jacketts failures, has he done his homework.

How many indeed,i'm a happy clapper but after that there is absolutely nothing I can be positive about. Can't really blame Lambert he's not been here long enough bet he wonders what he's took on.

The Flying Winger

Sue, I think the issue we have is that Morgans legacy that he spoke about was we are living with his plan to have a mediocre playing staff on low wages so that we were attractive to a prospective buyer, in this he succeeded as he also filled the team with midfielders to achieve a defensive minded team which Jackett went along with.

The unforseen bit was the delay in takeover which meant that Fosun didn't get their manager and with the new transfer rules for this season they had to bring some players in and run with the existing backroom staff, hoping to get to January to buy some players for promotion, sadly it's not working out and we are in direct straits.

Ok Sue, keep your head in the sand as usual...

Ok *Rampton* I will try.It may be hard but I will make the effort.

That was no owl jack ! It was Pullis dreaming of all the shots that you lot will be sending over the bar and wide, towards the end of the see season, whoooooooo, ahhhhhh whoooooo, gorra loff

Owls hoot jack not howl,

Surely you realise that the idiot

continues to prove that he is brain dead.

Not Convinced

I am sure no one listens to me but my suggestions are :

kortney hause to play permanently at left back every game ;

romain saiss to replace jack price in centre of midfield ;

iorfa to play centre back every game / recall enbanks -landell ;

cavaleiro to play right wing or inside right

costa to play left wing or maybe ola john

(mason to be recalled when fit)

these position changes will make a difference and I am now trying to be helpful , but I wonder whats the point as I am not convinced my opinion makes any difference .

Farmer Ted

It doesn't

Not Convinced

thanks mate , does yours ?

101 chicken chow mein

division 1 here we come, massive clear-out needed starting with Thelwell who has overseen the signing's of these mediocre at best rubbish players .Connor coady 1 good game in 6 rubbish today ,Edwards headless chicken though cant be faulted for effort, Saville OMG should be nowhere near the first team ,Stearman not good enough first time he was here why bring him back, Dominic Iawfull mistakes every game .Lambert must be wondering what he has let himself in for. I cant believe people on here still thinking about the playoffs we are in a relegation scrap and I do not think this bunch will have the heart for it.

Black Country Wanderer

My maths isn't great but Zenga was here for 14 games, thats not even a third of the season never mind half

The team apart from Bod and Costa is the same as last season for the last four games, and they have gone well haven't they?

In fact we were playing better with the "foreigners" in than we are now imo

PL has a task all right, the players we already had are not good enough.and hes obviously decided the ones bought in aren't either,so where does that leave us?

Hes right ,we need to get on the front foot more, but you cant do that playing 7/8 defensive players plus your keeper can you?

I don't know the answers, I doubt anyone does, but blaming everything on Zenga and "the foreigners" certainly isn't it

Jack the hat, fair play to coming on here and giving it the big un but we all know when it comes to it you wouldn't have the bottle to meet any of us face to face in a pub, you are nothing but a round door handle

In the bleak midwinter - would be an appropriate carol. Not even Santa can save us...

I am sorry but at this rate we re going down the defence is rubbish and we do not have a mldfield or any strikers. Last week away to pne lambert played with 2 strikers this week at home play with 1 does not make sense. And if someone can tell me how a midfield of price saville and coady is going to dominate the middle of the park and set up chances ill never know.

At least we are consistent. Crap every week.

First thing I would do on Monday in training is pick two teams and tell them there future depends on that game play a full 90 minutes and then we will know who will be out of the door in January.

just hope we will have some players left. God knows who would want to come and play for us with this crap.

Please Please change the so called defence.got more leaks than a holey bucket.

RIP wolves. at this rate.

Out the door in January!

Seriously, do you think these charaltans give f*ck?

Joe 90

Why oh Why does a team at home be fielded with a LONE striker, then expect to produce goals. It would be better fielding the OLD 2-3-5 system as we already have no defence, but at least we should be able to score goals and create havoc to todays opposition.

You really are a sad little man.

Sad yes. Man, never in a month of Sundays.

Laughing stock of all 5 divisions and further. this is a club that was going to be a force in this division and beyond and now looks set to lose its Championship status.

just listened to Lamberts' post match comments and he said what a good atmosphere it was. No it wasn't it was flat, the crowd had nothing to get up for at all.

Have we got enough on the playing side to stay up? Yes.

Will we stop up? no.

If Saville is getting a start we obviously have a manager that cannot see a decent player. the same could be said for Price and the back four to be honest. I know a lot of people like Price , got to be honest can't see a lot myself.

I'm with you,no to price,saville

Not Convinced

re price , people like him in the same that people liked eddie the eagle - they know hes hopeless but he s a trier , unless they believe the garbage served up by tim spiers who makes him man of the match most weeks .

Without a shadow of a doubt this was the worst performance I have ever watched at the Molineux and I've been going since the 70's.

Team selection was a joke (mind you so is our squad). The appointment of Paul Lambert, has to rate among the biggest mistakes ever to have been made this once great club.

At half time, Lambert should have been sacked that's how bad it was. I recon it's time to keep my slippers on and save some money, I'm fed up of going to the games feeling optimistic then walking out feeling nauseous.

No win in 9 games, players and new head coach ain't got the bottle to battle, win the midfield and score and win matches?

Thelwell out waste of money, sack mendez off too, what a load of rubbish. Who sanctioned the poor signings?

10_14 million spent and only 3 make first team? Cavaliero benched again, 2yards off scoring?

League one clear out and rebuild needed, doubt lambert will be in charge long.

Only Got Plan A

I have to congratulate myself for not renewing my season ticket

Very Old Gold

At least no one can blame Batth for today's result.

They can't,didn't like when a few booed at half time when he came on.

Sue it is wrong to boo our players individually. If Danny is not deemed good enough then it's up to the club to move him on. Danny is a good lad his heart is in the club and he does his best. I think the captaincy is weighing too heavy on his shoulders, give it to someone else and let him concentrate on his own game. Jamie o'Hara said on TV last night that our players prefer to play away from home, that doesn't look good on supporters. I remember the crowd were great for 20mins then the restlessness sets in. Molineux should be a fortress, but unfortunately the atmosphere is too negative at times.

Have we really moved forward look how bad this defence is get rid. Midfield needs to be stronger. Should be playing 4-4-2 , so at least we may have a chance then of scoring.

The starting line-up was never going to get your pulse racing but at least you could see it was designed to be defensively solid. All that evaporated in the first half an hour. What we were left with was a team who ran around a lot, waved their arms like human windmills but ultimately proved to us all that there is simply not enough skill to create chances or to provide any moments of real entertainment. Most of this missing skill and creativity was on the bench. When some of them did appear it was obvious that they have had any enthusiasm and confidence drained from them. It's becoming increasingly difficult to stay positive.

Well another week of total rubbish churned out by players who will just not stand up and be counted put a shift in remember best to say nowt and talk with your skill on the pitch asked to play one 90 mins game a week and what prob 4hours(probably less) training a day?? I make that 21.5 hrs but more like 16.5hrs, I feel soooo sorry for our poor players when I've just finished my 58hrs shift pattern like many other die hard out there, I'm sick to death of the rubbish and excuses the players give if went elsewhere they play their socks off its been shown over and over player babies( and that's what you are) you'll get your wish cus Foson won't accept your lack of commitment much longer - you've been warned.................

How bad can it get, I like a lot of Wolves fans had high hopes at the start of the season. Now we are in a serious relegation battle. Lambert's suggestion the squad is too large, he should say the squad is not good enough. If the match report is correct saying Wolves played one upfront at home is that what Jackett played. Is Lambert similiar tactic wise as Jackett.

Woodsetton wolf

Today was an absolute shambles...basically a Jackett team with Bod in place of Siggy and Costa in place of Henry/whoever. We knew that last seasons

bunch of under achievers were not good enough so we brought a load in and they are now being slated.

It may well be that the new recruits prove to be no improvement on the old squad but at least let's have a fair look at them before pronouncing judgement. Out of the new players we have certainly not seen enough of Saiss, Silvio, Prince, John, Cavaleiro or even Gladon to make any fair assessment. Bod looks little better than Siggy because there is still no service, Costa looks ok and was the only starter today with a iota of creativity and there is a massive question mark over Texteira.

Lambert is by nature a pretty cautious defence minded coach but if he thinks that a midfield of Edwards, Saville, Coady and Price will propel us up the table he is crackers. Brave words from him during the week about high lines and attacking football only for Saturday to arrive and expose the emptiness of those words once the lineup was known and before a ball was kicked...remind you of KJ through most of last season? Let's get some of those named above in the team for a few games so that we will at least know if any of them are any good...nothing to lose as things stand.

The Flying Winger

W w, totally agree I cannot get my head round these team selections of last seasons failures.

I am surprised that the Chinese are not asking the same questions, if I had signed the cheques I would have, trust me,

chris h

Hey you guys we beat Sheff Weds last May under Jackett. Just saying. It was boring last season, but he kept us up, don't bet on that this season unless we have a good Jan window.

Woodsetton wolf

Chris...I take your point but the Winger and I are talking about the here and now which as things stand is involves us being bored rigid and losing.

Once again the players and staff have talked up the game before an anticipated large crowd only to fall flat on their faces.ONCE & FOR ALL WILL WOLVES MANAGEMENT AND PLAYERS JUST SHUT UP BEFORE GAMES.Wolves are now fourth from bottom with too many players.

At the end of the 2013/4 season, while there was the disappointment of missing out on the play offs with 78 points,it did offer the springboard for the following season. However Wolves in their wisdom went for "Young and Hungry".While it is good to blood young players in the team,i feel this "Youngand Hungry" propaganda was a smokescreen for running the club on the cheap and not buying quality players.Instead they bought a load of bargain basement players from the lower divisions. With the loan signngs this season, here we are in a mess.Priority now is to retain Championship status as I feel it may be harder next season to get out of Division One than last time.

the big dog

Was at the game today and it wasn't pretty especially the first half, I don't understand cradleys comment about Stearman draining all the confidence away, he wasn't at fault for either goal, iorfa sold him hopelessly short in the pass, never stood a chance of getting it in time to clear it, and you can add two more occasions he did the same thing to the same player, on the whole I thought Stears was pretty solid won most of his headers, from the back to the front, never created anything do they get slated NO !!!

What an absolute shambles we are!!! When are we gonna kick the old dross into touch? 7m player sat on the bench for 70mins and 85 mins last week being kept out the team by Saville!! My 7 year old son has more commitment and skill than him. If West ham are daft enough to to give us 10m in January for iorfa then I'll personally drive him there myself, hes a disaster waiting to happen week after week. Lambert needs to grow some balls and do what he's says day after day to the press. If he wants to be more attacking then play attacking players, it's better to go 1 goal down and have flair on the pitch than go behind and have nothing!!. Big job on now lambert or else you'll find yourself managing in league 1 next season.

At least the stupid talk about play offs can stop now. Hopefully, folk will also quit babbling on about how good a coach Rob Edwards is too, and perhaps people will realise that Dave Edwards & co are all not good enough at this level. Still, at least it can get better. If Moxey and the third division level Jackett had stayed this club would be well adrift already.

The Flying Winger

boltonwolf, couldn't agree more why are these players sitting on the bench and subs today went back to Jackett.

I just can't get my head round it TFW. What do they have to do to get a start, they must be as bemused as us. If anyone can honestly say that cav, tex, saiss, sylvio and oniangue aren't better players than the ones who started today then we are doomed. Just play them for God's sake, put some faith in them and give them 6 or 7 games playing together and see what happens. The tried and tested player we play week in week out aren't good enough and it's that simple, doesn't matter one bit who the manager is! I would be willing to accept a couple of bad performances whilst the new boys find their feet but can't accept it from the same culprits we've had for the last 2 seasons, saying that it's too late now, should have happened in August.

The Flying Winger

boltonwolf, I am totally with you we keep mixing the old pack Why?

If I was one of these foreign players I would be questioning why I left my country etc to sit on the bench or not on the bench and watch week after week these performances.

I wouldn't be waiting for January I would be phoning China now and saying Get me out if Here!

Two matches in and the vast majority of supporters seem to have given up on PL already.

Now all the signings that were lauded by the punters on here are being dismissed as not being good enough. How times change eh? Lambert didn't bring these guys in so can hardly be blamed for the current state of the squad. We probably got the best guy available. Give the guy a chance FFS.

Indeed 2games and writing him off.

The second word is :- off...!

Jack the Hat

What is the first word .... on?

I don't post obscenities like you but just for your very simple mind it begins with f and means copulate.

Or just ask PetesNuts if you can find him...!

Jack the Hat

I get it .... Formulate!

Well that proves without a shadow of doubt you are brain dead...!

Jack the Hat

Well speak up man! ..... what is the answer?

What is the point of shouting when it is impossible

to educate the un intelligent...!

Right, I have had my moan. Yes, I am really worried about relegation. No I couldn't give a toss about any remarks from Brom. I love my team. I started following the Man Utd of the time in the 50/60's. Pain? No other team supporter has suffered as much! 68 Years of age, going on 100 with this lot. Please stop the rot, or give the wages to charity, I am beginning to feel charity begins at home, a win will do.

Come back Walter,we need some fun.

Uncle Albert

Sorry, but this result was expected - Derby (why the **** didn't we get Steve McClaren?) should have put six past us.

We are devoid of quality throughout the team, and the players as a whole are too young, too lightweight, and not good enough to mount a challenge. The defence is a serious issue, but then you could easily say the same about the midfield and attack.

* Carl Ikeme: very good keeper; good enough for a promotion charge.

* Andy Lonergan: good keeper, but definitely back-up.

* Dominic Iorfa: hasn't looked the same player for 12 months - at least.

* Silvio: no comment.

* Borthwick-Jackson: not interested.

* Kortney Hause: will never be good enough.

* Richard Stearman: no comment.

* Mike Williamson: too injury prone.

* Danny Batth: will never be good enough.

* Matt Doherty: good player, but too inconsistent; good wing-back who needs strong cover.

* Romain Saiss: potentially a very good player; needs to show more discipline.

* Jack Price: very good player; must stay in the team.

* Connor Coady: woeful player who can't defend, pass or score.

* Dave Edwards: great servant to the club, but definitely a back-up player; not a captain.

* George Saville: will never be good enough.

* Prince Oniangue: very poor signing.

* Costa: has the potential to be a great player at championship level, but needs to improve.

* Cavaleiro: has the potential to be a great player at championship level, but needs to improve.

* Teixeira: not good enough for championship slog.

* Nouha Dicko: fabulous player, but too injury prone; needs quality around him.

* Michal Zyro: superb player who will struggle to come back from current injury.

* Joe Mason: has the ability, but needs to beef up.

* Paul Gladon: no comment.

* Bodvarsson: very good player, but currently struggling; too much on his shoulders.

* Jordan Graham: absolutely brilliant player; twice as good as any other winger/forward at the club.

* Jed Wallace: will never be good enough.

* Lee Evans: will never be good enough.

* Ola John: no comment.

* Bright Enobakhare: needs time to mature; excellent prospect.

* Connor Ronan: needs time to mature; excellent prospect.

Probably missed someone out. Either way, our league position is correct.

Jacko the hatter, still got your Wolves obsession, you just can;t resist can you, sad old man, suppose when you have nothing else in your life glouting over some one else's loss build you up,

You just can't help yourself

Lambert is excused at this point. He knows what he has to do.

The players !!!.

One would think that they had some semblance as to what they had to do. After all

they have been playing / training together for awhile.......... Apparently not, no desire,no passion.

There may be half a dozen players Wolves should keep. The rest "history".

5th person to post, Jacko, what's up with you, your normally first, didn't you learn at school many years ago the noise that Owl's make, must have been something else you heard, was you being naughty with something rubber old man, or have they banned them from the care home, you must have had your ear fixed to the radio listening to the wolves game, didn't you know west birmingham albion were playing ?

Jack the Hat

I do a good job on here, I save your players from a ear-holing off you. I take away your pent up emotional pain by supplying a release valve.

Come on you BAGGIES, ninth in the Premiership and on the up.

The only release valve you have is the one in your lower back area that spouts the stuff you post on here.

It begins with an S.

Just embarrassing throughout. Is anyone at the club seeing this as we, the fans see this? Can't believe that Iorfa and Hause are England internationals, can't understand how Coady and Saville get a shirt when as midfield players they create nothing, can't get my head around what is passing for "coaching" when I see free kicks wasted, throw ins thrown away, passes lobbed hopefully into forward space. Apparently the club employ video analysts to advise the head coach on player performance stats, what on earth is going on during the week? We're seeing a shambles every home game and celebrating a 0.0 away point at Preston. Desperately poor today in front of so many youngsters with their parents, potentially the fans of the future, what a let down , hope the players are ashamed. They should be.

Excessive obsessive response to the f*cking kn*bhead, says a lot really!

Lambert, first home game and you play a lone striker out of form and midfielder's that cant create chances. No doubt you watched videos of previous performances. If you did then your thought process must have been.... Blimey that Costa and Cavalliero can play, best drop at least one if them!

A full house at Molyneux and you clearly showed that your failings at villa was down to you and your tactics.

I feel totally let down by your selection today and your tactics, we got beat because we gad no attacking play to worry their defence.

If we lose then at least give us some excitement or do the right thing and jog on.

didnt see the game but nothing seems to change.

we struggle at home and only start playing after we are behind in the game

lamberts priority must be to get the whole team defending for 90 mins particularly

when we dont have the ball.

Lets face it we dont have the goalscorer we need to outscore teams.

This isnt the stearman of 2 seasons ago. he was really poor last season for fulham and had a shaky start at wolves but he is the most expereinced defender we have fit and lambert needs to give him a run of games to see if he can come good.

mason doesnt get a look in when he has scored the most goals this year i think

Prodigy Wolf

It's another bhatti brothers era coming... Totally clueless no idea.. They'll soon get bored and stop investing..too many people behind the scenes to many players but none good enough wim a joke

Since the middle of last season everybody has been saying we need a proven goalscorer and several defenders and midfielders and none of these problems has been addressed, we got all Mendes European misfits and not one decent positive signing, Fosun has plenty of money but no football sense.

Jeff, Please sack Thelwell on Monday.......he has overseen the last 2 years of shambles.

The Scouse Scally must be crying with laughter that you believed you had bought a well-run Football Club.

A bloated squad of no-marks, very clear who is to blame. Keep Thelwell and it will guarantee a continuing decline.

Be lucky to get 20,000 at future home games.

Today, a huge opportunity missed.

old gold barmy army

Why do we KEEP starting with dross then bring our best players on chasing the game. Mr Lambert start with your best / most creative players then bring the dross on for 10 minutes at the end .!!!!!;

With a deep sigh, a shake of his head, and a look at his "half empty" cup of coffee. He looks forward to a long cold winter of disappointments. Oh for a ray of hope.

Cookley Wolf

I can't believe some of the armchair experts on here slating Lambert. Personally I felt gutted for him. First home game, 27,000 here, applauded onto the pitch, fans all pumped up after cheering Bully etc. The stage was set for a 3-0 Wolves win. Or at least in the land of make believe it might have been.

The person to blame for today's performance in my opinion is Steve Morgan who got bored with his new toy and withdrew his financial support as soon as we were relegated from the Prem.

For those with short memories, Kenny Jackett performed wonders in his first 2 seasons here, with no financial backing. He was betrayed by Morgan who wanted to recoup some of his money by selling our player of the year Stearman, and at a stroke destroyed the team Jackett was trying to create. I think that move alone was responsible for the morale issues that led to both McDonald and Afobe departing. Whatever people might think of Stearman (and yes, like the rest of them he was poor today), the fact is that in 2014/15 he was immense. If Morgan had added a couple of quality signings to that team, it would have been a very different story last year.

The team that finished last season was desperately short of quality. Jackett knew it and was forced into setting us up with the sole aim of not getting beaten. It was torture to watch, but not his fault. Had Fosun not turned up we would have been relegation favourites this year without doubt.

Despite their best intentions, Fosun have screwed up badly, (a) by appointing wild card Zenga as a panic buy, and (b) by flooding the club with a random bunch of foreign players who don't have the experience, strength or ability for the Championship.

If you accept the fact we had a relegation standard squad before Jackett left, and the new signings have not improved it, the reality therefore is that Lambert has been handed a squad that is basically no better than the team that was so poor last season for Jackett.

Because Lambert IS the right man and DOES know his stuff, he also finds himself forced to do exactly what Kenny had to do - namely set us up to be cautious and not to get beaten. You can see the size of his task, because despite us starting off brightly today (we were the better team up until the penalty) we clearly have an inept and disaster prone defence, an utterly toothless strike force and a midfield with no creativity. Shi/Thelwell/Mendes know what they need to do in January.

To those criticising Lambert, how long has he been here? 21 days. How many of this squad are his signings? None. Let's get behind the guy - he isn't the one responsible for the complete mess he has now been asked to sort out.

I agree, Lambert has been sold a pup and Zenga was given no chance......................sack Thelwell! if he stays, we are going nowhere (apart from down the Leagues)

JacktheHat's r'swhole

The best comment I have read on here for years.

Cookley Wolf.

Without a doubt the best post that has been on this site for ages.

great points made.

a lack of interest and ambition from the previous owner is still affecting the current squad.

Fosun screwed up by being too influenced by Mendes and signing quantity rather than quality.

I said at the time that we needed to sign mainly players with UK experience but we did the opposite. Teams that get promoted out of this league are made up of mainly UK based players because they seem to cope better with the physical demands of this league.

Wenga was appointed because he was a friend of Mendes. To be fair to Wenga he did more than a decent job but wasnt given enough time.

Lambert needs to get the whole team defending better, and use the goalscorers we have like mason and dicko to get results until january.

He will then try and offload the majority of the players we signed in the summer in my opinion.

He will then try and sign mainly UK based players. we need a a centre half, defensive midfielder and a goalsocrer

West Park

Good point Cookley Wolf.. Hopefully you are right and a major assessment is undertaken in January. . Have the powers at molineux identified the necessary players ?????

We came up against a well drilled team, who know how to play. We are the complete opposite.

One thing I think is missing massively, is some creativity in midfield. We started well, but as soon as they go one up, there's no-one in the midfield that can create chances, or get one of the forwards in behind. Its just all too formulaic. If Costa doesnt beat his man, we're effectively screwed going forward. Think back to when it really worked, we had K-Mac creating alongside Price. Price won it, K-Mac provided the creativity. Now we just have hard workers with no creativity (Cody, Edwards, Price, Saville) and theres just no spark.

Also, if we are selling Dom Iorfa, I think its the right time, he needs something new and we need a full back who doesnt keep randomly switching off at critical moments regardless of how much potential he has.

Be keen to see how we are when Nouha gets a full 90 mins, hopefully alongside Jon Dadi. JDB has proven he can get goals, but supply dried up around September so no surprise he's niw struggled. If he doesnt make his own chance by fighting off 2 defenders and the bearing down on goal from 40 yards out, he basically has nothing to work with.

Lets see how we get on at qpr.

Thelwell mr numpty talentspottersportingdirector grab your coat

But it really doesn't Help with all the slagging off and negative comments posted everywhere, to get the team inspired for the next match, I wonder how many here actually went down and watched the game ? Wolves are in trouble, ok, lets hope they do better next time....................
