Steve Bull: Paul Lambert needs time to make Wolves successful
Well the Derby game was shocking – it was the worst first half I've seen in a long time.
It looked like 11 individuals on the pitch, they didn't know who was supposed to be chasing who.
It was like a sheepdog chasing sheep – the ball was over one side of the pitch and they all followed it.
They must have had a kick up the backside at half-time and came out and gave it a good go.
Did they deserve something out of the game? I don't think so. The damage was done in the first half and we could have gone in a few more behind than what we did.
We've been like this all season, obviously not to that extreme, but we've been poor in the first half, conceded the first goal and improved in the second half.
I don't know how you can put your finger on it, whether it's the coaching, the management, I don't know.
There was perhaps a bit of inexperience on Rob Edwards' behalf but if I was a player I'd have gone 'it's his first home game, let's do it for him' – but the players let him down in the first half.
They showed a bit of character and spirit in the second half but you can still see there's just something missing there, a bit of leadership maybe.
I know Danny Batth's come under scrutiny because he's the captain and got everything on his shoulders. He needs somebody with an old head, i.e. Richard Stearman, to take that off him and let him play his own football.
I didn't think it was right to boo him at all. He's been there through thick and thin and is working his socks off. Whether the captaincy is a load on his mind I don't know.
Fans can boo, sing, buy a pie and do what they want because they pay the money. They were chanting his name as well.
What that booing will do to Danny is make him try harder – but trying harder on a football pitch makes it worse sometimes because you fluff the ball, you can't pass it right, you get a bit nervous. I've been there.
All he's got to do, if he can, is relax, play his game and get back to the normal Danny Batth we've seen before.
I know the fans want success and they're a bit fed up now. But it's going to take time.
Paul Lambert won't bring instant success either. He'll need time. Lambert said all the right things when he was unveiled, but so did Zenga when he started. I do think the fact he's British and knows the Championship will help him.
He'll know his best team soon and then we can look at January, hopefully when we're a bit closer to the play-offs.
