Wolves 1 Norwich 2 - player ratings

Wolves correspondent Tim Spiers rates the players after Wolves lose to Norwich.

Published

Carl Ikeme

Couldn't be blamed for either goal. One excellent first-half save from Murphy. A couple of poor clearances but otherwise he was pretty quiet. 6/10

Matt Doherty

The nagging feeling persists that he should be playing at left back. He'd found a niche for himself there, particularly in an attacking sense where he was very effective. Good cross for the goal though. 6/10

Danny Batth

After the huge high of the previous week (in which he was a colossus against Newcastle and Brentford, celebrated his 26th birthday and signed a new contract) it's been a very poor few days for Batth. There were question marks over his involvement in both of Wigan's goals on Tuesday, and also both of Norwich's goals here. Outmuscled by Cameron Jerome for the opener and didn't exactly throw himself at Robbie Brady when he curled home Norwich's second. Perhaps that's harsh criticism for the latter, but Batth was certainly well below his best here. International break comes at a good time for him. 5/10

Dominic Iorfa

Like the team he took a while to settle. A barnstorming run forward after the break helped lift the crowd. 6/10

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson

A couple of lax moments but otherwise he did okay. Yet to find real consistency in his performances but as he's still so inexperienced this isn't a surprise. 6/10

David Edwards

A great second half for Edwards who won a succession of challenges and helped drive Wolves forward during their best spell of the game. Popped up with a well-taken header - got great purchase on Doherty's floating cross to beat the keeper from the penalty spot. 7/10

Romain Saiss

After those impressive first two appearances against Newcastle and Brentford, his dip in form has coincided with that of the team. Lost count of the number of times he gave the ball away. Improved late on but he was booked yet again - his fourth yellow in fourth appearances, which is just ludicrous and means he's now only one away from suspension. There were doubts over his fitness before he made his debut - four games in 15 days may have taken their toll. 5/10

Prince Oniangue

Never really in the game. Kept things simple, but did nothing of note. Still struggling to exert his influence on games. 6/10

Helder Costa

As on Tuesday he was Wolves' most potent threat going forward. Created Wolves' only first half chance all by himself, winning the ball back and racing inside to curl one just wide. Produced a couple of dangerous crosses during Wolves' good second half spell, but also wasted a great opportunity when the ball fell kindly for him in the box. Of Wolves' summer signings he's behind only Jon Dadi Bodvarsson in the pecking order so far. 7/10

Ivan Cavaleiro

Looked lost in the first half. It wasn't entirely clear where he was playing, or what his role was. But either way he just couldn't keep possession and he contributed to Wolves inviting so much pressure on themselves. Better after the break and showed composure to pick out Nouha Dicko for his big chance. But otherwise he was poor. 5/10

Joao Teixeira

Another for whom the international break comes at a good time. Magical against Brentford but this was more Paul Daniels than David Copperfield. Withdrawn shortly after half time. 5/10

Substitutes

Conor Coady for Oniangue, 57)

Added some much-needed bite to Wolves' midfield. Snapped away at Norwich and allowed Edwards to move further forward. 7/10

Nouha Dicko (for Teixeira, 61)

A spine-tingling moment when he returned to action. Gave the whole place a lift - the crowd and the team - and Wolves' best spell of the game duly followed. The script was written for him but he couldn't become the hero, spurning that golden chance when he looked understandably rusty. Can't wait to see him in full flow again. 6/10

Joe Mason (for Borthwich-Jackson, 87)

No time to make an impact. N/A

Subs not used:: Lonergan, Silvio, Stearman, Price.
