Wolves' Walter Zenga wary of wounded Magpies

Wolves boss Walter Zenga has called for consistency from his team as they look to win their second game at St James' Park in four days.

Zenga hopes to plot successive victories over Rafa Benitez's Newcastle and put Wolves in the fourth round of the EFL Cup for the first time since 2011.

Both teams are likely to show numerous changes.

And Zenga, while hoping for a similar result to Saturday's 2-0 Championship victory, is mindful that Benitez and Newcastle will be out for revenge.

"Every game is different – of course we wish it'll be the same game but probably also they try to get revenge, and beat us," Zenga told the Express & Star.

"We have to prepare as normal, like every time, and to play with passion, courage and get a good result.

"If you have a good performance probably you have a good result.

"It's another game, another chapter, another story. We want to have a nice evening – this is our focus."

A few days before their stunning win at the weekend, Wolves had lost 4-0 to Barnsley at Molineux.

Zenga knows that only by being consistent will Wolves have a successful season.

"Football is all the time like this – you have a chance to react or confirm," he said.

"Of course the best idea is to have continuity in the result, because this is what all the teams are looking for, continuity in results and performances.

"From now until the end of the season my point is I wish I have continuity in this way.

"This league is a 46-game league and now 38 (to go) starts from now...it looks like the start of the season.

"We have to believe in our job, have confidence in our job and try every day to improve ourself and arrive at the level that we desire to be."

The likes of Ola John, Silvio, Jed Wallace and Jack Price were sat in the stands on Saturday and may come in, while Paul Gladon, Ivan Cavaleiro, Conor Coady and Kortney Hause are among Zenga's many options should he choose to make wholesale changes.

Fatigue from Saturday may be an issue.

Zenga said: "We have had the numbers of the game...we run 119 kilometres. It was a very huge number.

"The most important thing is to recover well and prepare well. This is the job of our staff.

"After the game we started to work for the Tuesday game. I'm confident in my players, I trust in them.

"I know they're going to play with heart and passion and I hope they're going to make a good game.

"The only thing you can be sure is that Stearman cannot play in the cup...this is the only proof I can give you!"
