Wolves chasing their NINTH summer signing

Moroccan international Romain Saiss could become Wolves' ninth signing of the summer as Walter Zenga finalises his squad for a promotion charge.

The 26-year-old defensive midfielder - who can also play in central defence - has held talks with the club over a permanent move from French Ligue 1 side Angers.

Saiss starred in the French top flight last year and has been courted by several clubs, including Villa who tried to sign him in January.

The potential fee involved is unknown but will be lowered by the fact Saiss is out of contract at Angers next summer.

It's believed Saiss and his representatives were in Wolverhampton on Monday to thrash out a deal.

He moved to Angers from Ligue 2 side Le Havre in 2015 and was their players of the year in his debut season.

Wolves have looked at several players in France during the past couple of years, with former popular centre half Ludovic Pollet scouting for them.

They signed defender Sylvain Deslandes from Caen last summer and snapped up midfielder Prince Oniangue from Reims last week.

Le Havre striker Nathael Julan also came close to moving to Molineux in June, but decided to stay with the Ligue 2 club.

The combative Saiss missed just three Ligue 1 games for Angers in 2015/16, scoring two goals and also earning 12 yellow cards.

Saiss is quoted as having said of his potential Villa move: "I would have been able to join Aston Villa in the break (January) but that was not very sportsmanlike.

"I wouldn't leave if the set project still allowed me to grow and develop myself."

Saiss has said he tries to model his game on Barcelona and Spain star Sergio Busquets.

Wolves have signed eight players already this summer.

Andy Lonergan moved from Fulham in June. And then since the Fosun takeover on July 21 seven more have joined.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson signed for £1m from Kaiserslautern, Oniangue for £2m from Reims and and Joao Teixeira, Helder Costa and Ola John on loan from Benfica.

A deal was reached with Atletico Madrid to free Silvio from his contract a year early, and fellow defender Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has joined on loan from Manchester United.

All four loan deals are for the duration of the 2016/17 season. Under Football League rules, up to five can be named in a matchday squad.
