The 24-year-old may be available once newly-promoted Boro have finalised their squad for the new season.

It's believed the North East club will want at least the £2million they paid to buy him from Wigan in January 2015.

Forshaw made 34 appearances last season Boro's £12m capture of Dutch midfielder Marten de Roon from Atalanta has pushed him down the pecking order at the Riverside.

Wolves will have competition for Forshaw's signature, with a number of Championship clubs also said to be interested. Meanwhile, Blackburn Rovers winger Ben Marshall has also been linked with a move to Molineux.

The 25-year-old was chased by Brighton last season but Blackburn rejected a £4m bid for the wideman.

It is thought Wolves pay have to pay something similar to prise Marshall from Ewood Park.
