After 16 years at the club, Moxey is set to leave Wolves within three months at which point he could move to Carrow Road, according to reports in Norfolk.

The chief executive's departure was revealed yesterday as the club announced the completion of a £30 million sale to Chinese conglomerate Fosun International.

And reports this morning suggest Moxey looks set to move east once he has overseen an up to three-month transition period with Wolves' new owners.

The Eastern Daily Press claims that Moxey, who spent 16 years at Wolves, is a front-runner to take the vacant chief executive position at Norwich.

The club's chairman and former Labour shadow chancellor Ed Balls is leading the hunt for a replacement for David McNally, who resigned from the Championship club 11 weeks ago.

Balls has pledged to hire a candidate with "real, deep football experience".

Speaking on the club's recruitment policy last week, he said: "If you look for people who are currently employed then you do it quickly.

"I promised we would bring in real, deep football experience. We are going to do that – but there is still more work to do."

Moxey can rely on a good reference from his former boss Steve Morgan, who is friends with Norwich's majority shareholders Delia Smith and Michael Wynn Jones.

In the meantime Moxey will stay at Wolves working closely with Fosun International representative Jeff Shi to ensure a smooth transfer of ownership.

The pair are due to speak at a press conference on Monday.
