Wolves takeover rumours: Sale looks days away
Wolves look to be just days away from a multi-million pound takeover amid reports official documentation has been lodged with the Football League.
Talks between the club and their prospective new owner – widely believed to be Chinese billionaire Robin Li – are understood to have advanced in the past week.
The Express & Star contacted the Football League yesterday who refused to comment, instead directing inquiries to Wolves. The club also declined to comment on the reports.
Kenny Jackett stated yesterday that he wouldn't be resigning as boss, despite widespread reports that Julen Lopetegui is soon to be announced as his replacement.
Jackett has insisted that he and his players will get on with their jobs and is concentrating on readying his players for the new season.
It starts with their first friendly of pre-season this afternoon, a behind-closed-doors fixture against Shrewsbury Town at Compton Park.
He said: "We need to prepare for the season. I've talked to the players about it, early on, and told them what I know.
"Everybody knows, it's there anyway, I haven't told the players anything they wouldn't have read in the papers."
All transfers at the club – including a move for free agent and former Manchester United midfielder Nick Powell – are on hold until the ownership situation is resolved.
Internet entrepreneur Li, aged 47, has a net worth of £10.6bn. He co-founded Chinese search engine Baidu and is the sixth richest man in China.
Li is also believed to be part of a £340m investment deal at AC Milan.
President Silvio Berlusconi has confirmed he is selling the Italian giants to Chinese investors, who will assume a 70 per cent stake. It is not known if Wolves and AC Milan would be linked in any way should both deals go through.
