The amount of money being spent in the Championship now is crazy...writes Wolves legend Steve Bull

Newcastle have spent £27million on only three players so far, while we saw the likes of Derby County and Middlesbrough spend similar amounts last season.

Whatever happens with the Wolves ownership situation, they have got to try and keep up.

Rumours of a Chinese takeover and a new owner with billions in the bank are mouth-watering for Wolves fans.

But as we've seen here in the recent past it's not as simple as chucking money at it and hoping it sticks.

We've seen with Chelsea and Manchester City, it can take a while to achieve success, and we also know how hard it is to get out of the Championship.

My preference has always been for someone from the Midlands taking over and then taking the club to heart.

That's not always possible though and money talks these days.

Away from the takeover speculation, I was so pleased to see Dave Edwards enjoy success with Wales, getting all the way to the semi-finals of the European Championship.

He's been riding the crest of a wave and I'm sure he's been enjoying every minute of it.

I've been there and it's a brilliant thing to be part of.

To be honest, Wales put England to shame.

England's performance against Iceland was just embarrassing – they played like 11 individuals, mis-controlling balls, passing all over the place, it was shocking.

The right arm didn't know what the left was doing and if England had got through that game it would have been pure luck.

Not with Wales, though. They fully deserved to get all the way to the semis.

Back at Wolves, it seems Dave, as well as Carl Ikeme and Danny Batth, will be offered new contracts.

They're stalwarts of the team and certainly not the kind of players we want to lose.

We lacked experience last year but these guys have it, and that will prove vital in the year ahead. Nouha Dicko's had a slight injury setback but it's great to see him back.

He could be a key player this season. We definitely missed his goals last year.

It's good to see him fighting fit. We know we'll pick up some injuries in the next few weeks but hopefully Dicko can be at full fitness before long.

Like the rest of the squad he's got to get himself ready to hit the ground running.

Hopefully we'll have a new chairman in place and can look forward to some exciting times.
