Goalkeeper Andy Lonergan remains the only new signing in what to this point has been a quiet summer at Molineux.

Although no further deals are thought to be imminent, club bosses remain confident of a breakthrough by the end of the month.

Sylla is among their top targets and further talks are expected now Anderlecht have confirmed Rene Weiler as their new manager.

Wolves are understood to have made a £2.3million bid for the 25-year-old Guinea international, one of several strikers on their shortlist.

Manchester United's James Wilson is another player being tracked, along with Fulham's Matt Smith, though it is understood no bid has been made for the latter.

Head coach Kenny Jackett has made no secret of his desire to strengthen up front and in wide areas.

Wolves struggled for goals during the second half of last season, following the £10million sale of top scorer Benik Afobe to Bournemouth.

They were also hit hard by injuries to a number of key players and Jackett will start the season without wide men Jordan Graham and Michal Zyro, as both continue their recovery from serious knee injuries.

The latter is expected to miss almost all of the upcoming campaign, having undergone surgery in April.

Jackett will be able to count on the services of Nouha Dicko following his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

And former Molineux favourite Mel Eves believes the 24-year-old, who will return with the rest of the current squad for pre-season training next week, has a big part to play.

Eves said: "He'll be crucial, particularly with the way Kenny wants to play. If we are going to be playing with one central striker then I think he does that better than anyone else – even better than Afobe.

"If Dicko comes back and starts firing straight away it will give him a huge boost."
