Mel Eves: Change is needed at Wolves

Wolves favourite Mel Eves fears Wolves will struggle to challenge for promotion from the Championship until there is a change of ownership.

Eves believes fresh impetus and new ideas are needed if the club hope to be play-off contenders next term.

Current owner Steve Morgan announced his intention to sell last September but despite a number of interested parties, a takeover appears no closer.

Chief executive Jez Moxey recently claimed a top six finish would be the minimum requirement next season, whether the club is sold or not.

Eves believes that is asking a lot of head coach Kenny Jackett, commenting: "My head says we are going to struggle to compete - even though my heart hopes we do.

That is likely to be the case until things are sorted out with regard to the ownership of the club.

"You need the same thing to happen as has happened at Villa, with them getting a buyer.

"If we were to compete, it would need to be one of those seasons where everything goes right - similar to what happened to Leicester in the Premier League."

Eves believes the presence of both Villa and Newcastle in the second tier next season makes promotion a far tougher prospect.

He said: "Had Villa come down and remained in the state they were in, it might be different.

"But with the impetus of having a new owner, they will be contenders. It is that kind of thing which we need at Wolves.

"There needs to be a tweak to the culture at Molineux - it has been needed for some time."
