Kenny Jackett: Wolves need experience

Wolves' young and hungry policy isn't enough to win promotion on its own, boss Kenny Jackett believes.

The Wolves boss and recruitment chief Kevin Thelwell are currently eyeing up a list of targets as they bid to assemble a squad good enough to challenge for promotion next season.

Jackett has never been shy to promote academy youngsters during his three-year Molineux tenure.

But he says Wolves need players that are 'ready now' if they're to be near the top six in 2016/17.

He told the Express & Star: "The realism has to be there of – are they of the standard?

"Sometimes during the course of this season I've watched players learning. We want people that are ready now.

"I don't want to take away from what I consider to be a very good youth policy.

"Wolves has a very good youth policy and there are good players in the system at all ages.

"It's an asset for the club.

"But our youth policy on its own isn't enough. It isn't enough to get us to where we want to go.

"It has to be supplemented, and part of, an effective club.

"Similarly I don't want it to fall away. I want to still leave spaces to put people in at the right time."

Jackett has already stated the need for new strikers and left-sided players this summer.

And he was he was 'desperate' to put together a good enough squad in the coming months.

"The second part of the season we haven't enough firepower, or balance, or competition in the squad," he added.

"But all that matters now is what we do going forward.

"We're desperate and I'm desperate and determined to put a squad together that can challenge.

"That's my aim through the summer."

Meanwhile, Michal Zyro, who is recovering from knee ligament damage, sparked transfer talk when he posted a picture on Instagram yesterday.

It was with Polish international Daniel Lukasik and both were wearing Wolves training gear.

However, it is understood that Lukasik was purely there to keep his fitness up and spend time with Zyro.
