The friendlies will take place on July 15 and 23 respectively, with the team's six-day trip to Ireland sandwiched in-between.

Ticket details for the games will be announced in due course.

Wolves have happy recent memories of Gresty Road. They beat Crewe 2-0 there in April 2014 with goals from Kevin McDonald and David Edwards to secure promotion to the Championship with four games of the season still remaining.

Kenny Jackett's team returned to the ground a few months later for a pre-season friendly, with Nouha Dicko on the scoresheet in a 1-0 win.

Their last trip to Vale Park was also during the 2013/14 League One title-winning season.

McDonald, Leigh Griffiths and Bjorn Sigurdarson found the net in a 3-1 victory.

However the day was marred by crowd trouble before, during and after the game. More than 30 people were arrested, a police car was attacked and Staffordshire Police's handling of the violence was criticised.

Two police officers were investigated and chiefs admitted to a catalogue of errors.

Vale finished a respectable 12th in League One this season, but Crewe were relegated to League Two, finished bottom of the pile.

Crewe boss Steve Davis, who was odds-on favourite to land the Wolves job in 2013, said this week his players shouldn't go on holiday this summer and should instead be 'grafting away' at the club.

More friendlies are set to be announced in the coming weeks.

Chief executive Jez Moxey announced at the club's end of season awards on Tuesday night that their pre-season friendly at Molineux will be a special Sir Jack Hayward tribute game.

All proceeds from the fixture will go towards the Sir Jack statue fund.
