Wolves' Dave Edwards lands PFA award

Wolves midfielder Dave Edwards has been named one of the Professional Footballers' Association's community champions of the season in recognition of his work off the field.

The Wales international was nominated for the award by Wolves Community Trust, the club's charity.

They have witnessed first-hand this season the 30-year-old's commitment to helping his local community.

Edwards has been on a number of charity visits over the course of the campaign, met scores of children, and participated in soccer schools.

Wolves Aid, the trust's arm which provides local charities with support, has donated more than £1million to 142 organisations since 2008.

Recognising the importance of giving up his time to brighten up the day of supporters, Edwards has been a regular face at events over the past 12 months.

The PFA hand out community champion awards each year to a number of players who are nominated by their own supporters or their club.

They are trying to encourage footballers to stay in touch with their fans and local community. Wolves defender Danny Batth has previously been given the same award.
