Any permanent move to Wolves for the recalled Jeremy Helan is budget-dependent, boss Kenny Jackett has stated.

Left-sided Helan was recalled by Sheffield Wednesday yesterday owing to an injury at Hillsborough for on-loan Villa left-back Joe Bennett.

Jackett was pleased with the 23-year-old Frenchman's contribution in his eight appearances at left wing and may look to sign him permanently.

He hasn't ruled out returning to resurrect a move when the season has finished - but it all depends whether cash is made available by owner Steve Morgan.

Wolves looked at several left-backs in January. They were turned down by Francois Moubandje and Nicolai Boilesen, of Toulouse and Ajax respectively, and also inquired about Albion's Sebastien Pocognoli.

Jackett said of buying Helan: "It very much depends where the club is and what we have to spend.

"He started very well, he's very athletic. It would have been interesting to have a look at him at left-back as well, but the time where there was that opportunity I decided to play our own player Sylvain Deslandes, at Hull.

"If you're playing him in the advanced positions, you're wondering how many goals is he going to score. But coming from deep, as he gets more experience in the Championship, there's an athletic player with a good left foot.

"He's made a good impression in terms of his personality as well – he puts 100 per cent in all of the time."

The summmer budget has yet to be decided, although chief executive Jez Moxey insisted last week it was normal not to have done so by now.

Jackett added: "Targets have been identified, yes, and that's an ongoing process with Kevin Thelwell.

"The exact financial parameters have yet to be decided.

"We're not sure in terms of wage bill or money to spend, which are to be discussed and decided."

Helan made eight appearances in gold and black.

Ironically he may soon line up against Wolves, with Sheffield Wednesday the visitors to Molineux on the final day of the Championship season.

Helan is out of contract at Hillsborough next summmer.

Jackett added of the player's Wolves recall: "We know with him being a loan player that was likely to be the case.

"With Sheffield Wednesday having so much to play for and pushing for the play-offs then he goes back as cover.

"We've done that once or twice ourselves this season, bringing someone back and putting them in our team.

"It works both ways and we thank Jeremy for what he's done for us.

"He's shown an excellent character. I can understand why Sheffield Wednesday have called him back.

"He's also a variable player."

And of who might replace Helan is the team at home to Rotherham tomorrow, Jackett added: "It does open the door to Connor Hunte or Sylvain Deslandes, and we also have the option of Jed Wallace.

"Those players are the options for us."
