Kenny Jackett said defeat was tough to take after Wolves conceded a sickening late winner against Hull City.

A top class Robert Snodgrass free kick deflected in off Carl Ikeme in the third minute of injury time as the Tigers triumphed 2-1.

Jackett's young Wolves side – which had a back four with an average age of just 20 – more than held their own and restricted the fourth-placed side to few chances after equalising through the returning David Edwards.

The Wolves boss was pleased with some aspects of his team's play, but felt they could have done more to threaten the high-flying hosts.

"It's tough to take," he said.

"It was an excellent free kick, you've got to say that.

"I thought first half we played well despite the early goal and a couple of mistakes, it was a soft goal.

"But we were good defensively and we offered a threat going forward, playing some good football.

"In the second half I don't think we had enough of a threat.

"We're away at Hull, but we wanted to be able to step that game up and give them more of a problem.

"Overall we were unlucky not to get anything out of the game."

French teenager Sylvain Deslandes made his Championship debut at left back with captain Danny Batth out with illness.

Jackett – who confirmed that Deslandes departed with cramp and Kevin McDonald and Nathan Byrne were fully fit but not selected – was pleased with his young defence despite an early howler from Dominic Iorfa and Ikeme.

"There was a good attitude and athleticism about our game," he added.

"Our pressing is quite good, we have the legs to do that, but the break and their decisiveness before the opposition get back have to improve if we're to get more shots in.

"But there's disappointment because we don't like losing and we don't like conceding two goals.

"For Dominic and Kortney it's a big night, and I wasn't disappointed with them.

"They weren't bad at all (as a back four). Matt Doherty played very well and the two centre backs are 20 and the left back 18.

"I had no hesitation is putting Sylvain in. Although he was struggling with cramp I can understand that because it was a tough pitch and a big game for him.

"He'll learn from it and come through.

"There's a lot to build on for us, but ultimately it's a disappointment because there's no points."
