Defender Matt Doherty reckons Wolves' 'fearless' approach at Burnley shows confidence is soaring among the players.

The Molineux men went into the international break on a high after claiming a deserved point against the Championship leaders.

And Doherty, currently with the Ireland squad and hoping to make his international debut this week, thinks confidence certainly hasn't been an issue with Wolves of late, despite mixed results.

"It was a fearless approach," he said. "We're actually quite confident at the moment – we're playing like that in every game.

"Results maybe don't suggest that but that's what we're trying to do.

"I'm not surprised by how we played or by the result."

Kenny Jackett last week challenged Doherty to become one of the best full-backs in the Championship and use his Ireland call-up as an incentive to improve further.

"Obviously whenever a manager says something like that, it drives you to prove him right," Doherty said.

"I'm just out there trying to be the best that I can."

The 24-year-old said he now feels comfortable at left-back, having first been used there just before Christmas.

And he is enjoying his partnership with Jeremy Helan down the left wing.

"I feel we're doing quite well, both defensively and going forward," he added.

"We're positive when we have the ball. We might lose it in forward areas but at least we're trying to go round people or trying to attack.

"I feel quite comfortable playing with him, which is good because he came in on loan and sometimes it can be hard for people to settle right away.

"Being able to play both sides means I'm versatile. Some people might say I'm better on the left.

"I'm happy to be comfortable on both. At the start when I first went there I wasn't that comfortable and I thought how long is this really going to last.

"I'm comfortable now on both sides."

Saturday's result wasn't the first time they've claimed points off one of the Championship's top sides this season, after wins over Derby and Brighton and another draw against Burnley.

Doherty said of Wolves' inconsistency: "We seem to do quite well against the big teams, but that's no good if you don't do that against the lesser teams, so to speak.

"We need to be more consistent against every team, because we're good enough to do that.

"If we can do it against the best teams we're obviously able to do it against everyone. It's just a lack of concentration that costs us sometimes."
