Joe Mason hopes he's done enough to earn a starting spot for Wolves tomorrow – and admits it's been frustrating not starting many matches of late.

New signing Mason has started just three of seven matches since joining the club for £3m from Cardiff.

He has scored two goals in that time – and almost helped mount an unlikely comeback at Middlesbrough on Friday when his header diverted off Ben Gibson for an own goal.

The 24-year-old has been on the bench for Wolves' last two matches.

But he hopes his substitute performances will lead to a place in the XI for tomorrow's visit of Bristol City.

He said: "It's frustrating, obviously I want to start every game like everyone does, hopefully I've put something in the manager's mind and maybe play on Tuesday night which is a big game for us.

"I'm hoping to play up top and Bjorn (Sigurdarson) is doing a good job there at the minute so it's competition for places.

"When I get my chance I've got to try and take it."

Of his contribution at Boro, Mason added: "I'm reasonably happy, I'm a bit disappointed it was given as an own goal.

"But I felt like we finished strongly. Another five or 10 minutes and we could have got a second goal – they were a bit nervy."

Wolves were today waiting to hear how long Ethan Ebanks-Landell would be sidelined for.
