A 2-1 defeat at home to Preston North End left Wolves' play-off hopes surely in tatters.

They've won just four home games this season, are 11 points off the top six, and 14 off relegation, with the campaign threatening to disintegrate in mid February.

And the supporters loudly voiced their opinions, through a cacophony of boos at full time and also anti-Jez Moxey and Steve Morgan chants, as well as cries of "you don't know what you're doing" towards Jackett when he brought Tommy Rowe on in the final minutes.

Jackett said: "There's a lot of anger out there. There's frustration, I understand that.

"We're looking, all of us, for good performances and wins. I need to produce results.

"We have to make sure we come through this period of injuries to key people, the sides settles down and we go again.

"When we're poor and losing, crowds are critical, we have to take that and accept it.

"We need to put in improved results. That's the thing that will get people behind you.

"The players are desperate to win.

"Losing players to injury doesn't help with the flow of the team. The goals against column at home is very high. It's the eighth time of out 16 we've conceded two or more."

Wolves fell behind to Paul Gallagher's goal in the 17th minute.

And Jackett said that was the key passage of play in the game, with his team effectively down to 10 men as James Henry was suffering with a hamstring injury that forced him off.

"It was a frustrating afternoon," he said.

"The players gave everything - there was no lack of effort.

"Preston started the better. We gave a poor goal away.

"The key incident is the first goal where we've got James Henry struggling with a hamstring injury and really should have played the ball out, and either let us assess him, or be able to get a substitute on and reorganise.

"We got a really good goal back, I was hopeful of getting back into the game.

"After that there was a lot of huff and puff. But we couldn't find the clear cut chances.

"Preston played five at the back, it did negate, they're hard to get in behind.

"Certainly early on they gave us problems and we didn't deal with Gallagher well enough.

"It was tough to get in behind Preston. Defensively they are very solid, it's a strength of a good season they've had so far."

Joe Mason scored his second goal in two Wolves appearances, but did so from the bench with Jackett again electing to leave his new £3m man out of the starting XI.

The Wolves boss said of the decision: "While he's bedding himself in we're working out how best to bring out his strengths.

"I'd suggest he needs to play right up there, because his best ability is to finish.

"He showed an ability to get in behind, which was good. He took his goal very well."
