And Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has played down any criticism of his new £10m striker.

Afobe's conduct during his time at Wolves was criticised by Jez Moxey and Kevin Thelwell earlier this week.

The player hit back yesterday saying the club were hanging him out to dry.

Jackett was reluctant to answer questions on the issue at his pre-match conference ahead of tomorrow's game against Preston, saying his focus was on his current players, not on those who had left.

But he did say: "Benik had a whirlwind year with us.

"People saw the games, people can make up their own mind.

"There was a well publicised and big bid from Norwich in August. It was quiet in the build-up to (January). You're wondering whether things are going to happen, and when it did it happened very quickly over three or four days, it wasn't protracted.

"It did accelerate very quickly at the end.

"All of my focus and energy is on finding the attacking equation that can be successful in this league."

Afobe has made an impressive start to life at his new club, notching three goals in five appearances for the Cherries.

And Howe, whose Bournemouth team host Stoke City tomorrow, praised Afobe's work ethic and temperament.

"From our perspective, we are only worried about the future and not the past," he said.

"I think what happened with Benik and Wolves is their relationship, their story - it's not anything to do with us.

"We, in signing Benik, acted in absolutely the right way. We were delighted to sign the player and he has started so well for us. So, with Benik I'd rather talk about how well he's done and the future.

"I think Benik is the same - his mindset is to focus on us and the game tomorrow rather than comments made by his former club.

"You can only act with people and interact with people as you see fit. You can't look back. Benik has come in and made a huge impression with the squad.

"He's got a really good work ethic, a really good temperament. I have to say, with a big transfer fee attached to his name, he's handled that situation really well."
