The Benik Afobe saga dominated both local and national news yesterday, after the striker reacted angrily to Wolves' comments suggesting he was 'no longer trying' for the club.

Fans took to social media, many offering their support to the Bournemouth forward, who made the £10 million move from Molineux to Dean Court last month.

Many sympathised with the 23-year-old, however others sided with the club after watching his performances and general body language this season.

The Benik Supporters

sheshe - Of course he didn't want to play. Who can blame him!!! He didn't want to play as a lone striker. He didn't want to play for a club with no ambition.

If Morgan agreed to replace Dicko, whilst injured and Sako with some QUALITY player, not from the bargain basement, he may well have had more motivation!!

soggy_wolf - It's a little bit of both, isn't it? I agree with Afobe though, Thelwell and Moxey are hanging him out to dry to cover their own backs.

Topwolf - I know a lot of people felt that Afobe 'downed tools' this season when the move to Norwich didn't go through.

I personally have always felt that the drop in performance standards was more down to the players he had around him.

He's a player that relies heavily on service to work off his movement as he's not great outside the box.

It made it difficult for him to contribute the standards he did last season without Sako, Dicko and with Edwards and McDonald under-performing early on this season in comparison to last season.

Bleydh - Nothing more than an attempt to justify selling our best player and explain why the club went back on its word not to sell him.

Quite frankly - it stinks. Nothing more than a pathetic and probably untrue attempt at damage limitation.

Sharmwolf - Don't worry too much about the past Benik. You are now at a progressive club who have a bright future and a good owner whereas we..............

recycledwolf - Don't rise to it Benik and stay off Twitter, you don't need to belittle yourself.

We are used to this now and just another attempted smoke screen to deflect away from the real problems by the board.

Shewolf1943 - Personally I believe Benik. Yes his body language was of one who was being played in a negative way. Absolutely soul destroying, and Kenny you have much to answer for with your methods.

When Ben came to us he was a well spoken eloquent young man, why should he have changed his attitude.

He was a joy to watch last season with Sako and Dicko, but the club let him down badly with lack of quality they invested in. Good luck for the future Benik I hope you go on to be a great success. You left a club drowning in mismanagement.

Nigpig - I don't think any Wolves fan will believe the club on this one. Its a sign of desperation by the owner and his side-kick to blame anyone else other than themselves for ruining the potential of this club.

A claim that we could not attract players in January may well be true but its all their own doing.

Ritchie - Good on ya Benik, And don't worry fella Wolves fans would not believe for one moment that you had stopped trying.

The truth of the matter is you were less effective (even though you scored 10) because this club failed to replace Sako and the injured Dicko and played you (a quality number 10) upfront on your own.

The Benik Bashers

Flash - It appeared that you no longer wanted to play for us and chased the dream of Premier League football. Why sign a long term contract and then jump ship?

Really hope that Bournemouth get relegated and then see what happens in the summer!

Ye Olde South Bank - Don't insult our intelligence by saying "I did my best" when your body language said the absolute reverse.

Sorry, but you weren't exactly pulling your weight near the end - you looked disinterested to me. Unfortunately, there's no hiding place on the pitch, nor are fans mugs.

We can see when someone's heart isn't in it anymore - and yours wasn't. Much as I sympathise, you were well paid to do a job whether you liked it or not. Simple as that, really.

Sir Billy Quiet - Afobe did want to leave, he lost any belief that the club wanted promotion. We all know that feeling.

salmacis - Let's not make the mistake of thinking this season had anything to do it. He asked for a transfer before the season had even started.

He signed a contract. HE did - no one forced him to - yet six months later he basically ripped it up and sulked. Don't blame the club for his lack of integrity.

BlueWolf - It was clear he wasn't giving it his all. Admittedly the service to him wasn't great but he appeared he couldn't care less when I saw him play.

wolfo - I agree with no show Thelwell as Benik had his head in the clouds most games, missed loads of easy sitters and one-on-ones that he was banging in the season before.

Snatched at loads of shots and general body language was poor from september onwards?

Benik's not loyal anyway to any football club and suspect he will move on at the end of this season or next to another club to line his pockets.

Wirral_Wolf - Why is everyone jumping to the defence of Afobe? He was a shadow of his previous self and looked totally uninterested most of the time - all signs that he didn't want to be at Wolves and was hankering for a move.
