Wolves arguably had the better chances of the two teams but couldn't find that elusive winner at the Madejski Stadium.

However, after the dreadful draw against Bolton in midweek, this was a far more positive Wolves display.

Jackett said: "It was a good performance, we controlled long spells of the game, we couldn't quite get that goal.

"It was pleasing, a good clean sheet, and we were well encouraged by good travelling away fans.

"I'm very pleased with the clean sheet because our goals against column has been too high.

"There was more composure, more build-up, more of a threat in behind their defence. And in the end ultimately a good clean sheet for the defence.

"We started nervously but grew into the game. I'm maybe disappointed we didn't win it. We had some clear cut chances and we played very well.

"The performance against Bolton wasn't a good one. Today I felt it was, we controlled large spells with short passing and long passing, and a threat in behind.

"In midfield if we can keep playing like we did, if George Saville can come on, it'll be interesting to see how many chances we can make."

There was a surprise in Jackett's team sheet with new £3m signing Joe Mason dropped to the bench as the Wolves boss changed formation, bringing in James Henry and Saville, who impressed in midfield.

Jackett said of the changes: "I wanted to go 4-3-3 and that was the reason for it, I didn't think we'd be able to impose ourselves on Reading, we needed to cover the midfield.

"Particularly away from home we needed a foothold in the game. Bjorn Sigurdarson gave us a lot today, I was very pleased with his performance.

"He's going to build up gradually after such a long time out. I see a hungry player, and that's a very good sign for the future. His first full game for some time and he looked strong all the way through."

It was Saville's first league start for Wolves since November 2014. Jackett said of the midfielder: "He made a difference in midfield.

"He's one we bought to develop. Now at 21 he's been with us some time. It was a good start for him and something he can build on.

"We do feel we have a number of players around that age group that have a good future.

"He has to be encouraged by that. Playing against Norwood, he's one of the best in the division. Saville gave us some running and some bite."

Despite the improved display, Wolves are even further behind the top six, 10 points away from sixth-placed Sheffield Wednesday.

Of their fading top-six hopes, Jackett said: "It's a big call, we need a really good run, but we're close to being a very good side.

"In terms of spirit and football we played very well. For the top six, it's a big call, not impossible, we have to keep driving forward."
