Comeback ace Bjorn Sigurdarson has revealed a challenge from Wolves boss Kenny Jackett has been his motivation for returning.

The Icelandic forward is back in the Wolves team after more than two years away, with injuries and loan spells overseas suggesting his Molineux career was over.

Jackett even said in July last year that Sigurdarson was surplus to requirements and would have to find a new club when he returned from a serious back injury.

But the 24-year-old could now play an unlikely key role in the remainder of Wolves' season, particularly with the failure to land a striker before last Monday's transfer deadline.

He said: "After (a loan at) Copenhagen I thought, I'm not sure if I'm welcome at Wolves.

"In the end I started training and the gaffer was happy and just said to me that 'if you can prove you're good enough, you'll get the chance.'

"It really motivated me. When he came up and said you need to prove you're good enough – that goes through your mind.

"It makes you think I'm going straight into the team, I'm going to show him that I'm going to stay. I think I've done quite well in proving how good I am."

Sigurdarson is out of contract this summer – but he's not thinking beyond playing as many games as he can for Wolves in the coming weeks and month.

He added: "I just think that I'll do my best. If that's good enough, great. If they're not happy I'll have to move on.

"My target right now is just to play games and stay fit. I'm not bothered with what is going to happen after this season, that doesn't bother me at all at the moment, I just want to play."

The striker is popular with supporters, and he thanked them for sticking by him, adding: "The tweets and things on social media are amazing, that they still support the guy that left two times and then came back."
