Initial discussions have taken place over extending the winger's deal, which expires in 2017.

Reports elsewhere suggesting a contract has already been offered are wide of the mark.

However, if talks do progress and the Dutchman prolongs his Wolves stay, it will complete a remarkable turnaround in his Molineux fortunes.

The 24-year-old was allowed to speak to Leeds over a permanent Wolves exit last August, before the move fell through.

He almost joined Bolton on loan shortly afterwards, and was then shipped out on loan to then-league leaders Brighton in December for a productive six-game spell in which he scored two goals.

Van La Parra's form on returning to his parent club has been impressive and he was man of the match in the recent draw away at Queens Park Rangers.

Initial talks with players out of contract at the end of the following season are standard practice at Wolves and no decision has yet been made, with Wolves keeping a watching brief on the situation.

Meanwhile, boss Kenny Jackett empathises with supporters who booed the team off against Bolton on Tuesday. Wolves were jeered off the pitch after two late goals earned the Trotters a 2-2 draw.

The point left Wolves with a mountain to climb to revive their faint play-off hopes.

Jackett said: "I can understand the reaction at the end because the fans are looking for us to sweep teams away and that is our aim as well.

"If we can, we want to be able to do that at Molineux but we didn't. It was quite a flat night and that comes off the team on the pitch.

"There has to be an honest assessment of where we are. You need to be able to press and win the ball high up the pitch and then keep it."
